Poll
Question:
Do you think a Super Smash Bros. 4 will be released (not what you want to happen, what you think will happen)?
Option 1: Definately, there's no way Nintendo can't continue the series.
votes: 12
Option 2: There's a good chance, but there's still some chance that it won't.
votes: 11
Option 3: It's a 50-50 shot... Cross your fingers.
votes: 10
Option 4: I doubt it, but Nintendo might pull it through.
votes: 6
Option 5: Definately not. If Masahiro Sakurai says this is the last installment, IT IS THE LAST INSTALLMENT.
votes: 0
Option 6: I really don't care.
votes: 2
The poll question speaks for the whole topic. Do you think that it is probable that it will happen?
Also, post some logical reasons... I really want it to happen, but I get discouraged when Sakurai states that Brawl was literally the "Brawl to end them all".
I want to see a new smash bros.
And since the series is a money maker, I bet they will make it, with Sakurai or without him.

That can mean many things, but I see what you mean.
But yeah, I don't think Sakurai is gonna make another one, he seemed really tired of doing the Smash Series (though I'm sure it's hard work in all, IMO he's nuts to let something like this just end)
But what ever...
I don't think there will be another one.
For one, Nintendo has less and less characters at their disposal, sure, we could list 100 they could use in a fourth installment, but part of making money is brand recognition. You can't start filling the slots with characters most haven't heard of. On top of that, there are less and less new characters......Lobe doesn't fit too well, Olimar does. Sure, Captain Rainbow might be a choice....but that's what.....one new character? Add in Ghor/Rundas/name I can't spell, there is two new characters, and we'll even be as bold as adding in Rosalina. That is hardly any "new" characters.
On top of that, part of Smash is besting the one before it....it isn't exactly easy to keep finding new and original stages, items, plots, etc. The amount of work would be huge.
Sure, there is a chance of it, but I doubt it at this point.
I think it's 50-50 chance, Sakurai said Brawl would be the last one, but Nintendo knows that SSB is a big popular thing, so Brawl would probably be the last one Sakurai makes, but Nintendo will probably make a crappy sequel for "new gamers."
yeah definately
the question is when
im guessing that we will see another by 2015
the only other thing we might see is a 64 for ds
They were ready to make Brawl without Sakurai, I'm certain they'll continue without him.
Maybe...I think there's a 50-50 chance.

I see alot of flaws in your post.
Chances are, since we are of a younger genration the some of the characters that made it into the Smash series (Seriously, not many here have actually played Kid Icarus, even know who Ness was until someone explained he was from Earthbound. Unless you palyed one of the first FE games, you wouldn't know where Marth came from, same goes for Roy.). Towards your comment about Lobe and Olimar, Lobe could have made it in, hes practically identical to Oli but blue, and when it comes down to it I could give to poops which small Pikmin scavanger I can play as. I mean, you could have just made a second color that looks just like him similar to what they did with Wario.
Also, I don't see how you guys don't think theres enough people to still put in Brawl. Theres still tons from the Mario series, like Waluigi, Birdo, etc. You can just as easily take a different class from the fire emblem series ( I haven't played FE in awhile, but I remember a class where there was this tank with a spear) All you need to do is take a popular character in that class and boom, you have a new FE character.
And theres always room to improve on movesets...Just think I'd like to comment that DKs first appearance was shown by him throwing Barrels, so why doesn't he do so in Smash?
Nintendo will carry on the Smash Series, Im 100% sure it will. When Sakurai said "The Brawl to End them all" That could easily be mistakened for a metaphor for "This is the best Smash Brothers game yet!"
I wasn't aware that Big Brain Academy had Pikmin in it.
I'm sorry I thought Lobe was the blue pimkin dude, I haven't played Pikmin in ages. My point still stands though.
So using filler characters makes a good game? Birdo and characters as such are just that.
It can happen, but It also can't. I've written a long microsoft word document but being that I'm a lazy procrastinator and busy with what I think's important, I'll just keep It simple.
To reply to the discussion of mack and timmy;
They can keep topping themselves, It really depends on how the next system is designed. There's still things left undone and many melee players want a more 'Indepth' Smash game again, wi-fi was terrible (Nintendo may fix this on there next console, but knowing them, eh...) Stage builder had very little depth. Sure there's not as much of a room as improvement as the jump from melee to brawl gave, but It's really all in the air at this point.
We can 'Argue' Who fits well for hours, but It will get us nowhere. Anyone remember the ness debates? Some characters are plain wierd, nintendo has reached a more casual point, but brawl came out what? 4 months ago? There's still possibilities of characters like claus, paper mario, isaac, and so forth. While It would be more fillerish, I can see about 30-32 characters in a smash 4 from brawl, so It's not really that hard to think of around 13-15 choices, unless the developers are that increative, but anyone remember sakurai's Polls?
...That he completely ignored.
There's still characters, you can argue over what's a filler and what's not, but the fact Is that If nintendo makes It, they won't care. See:Fillers in mario kart wii. People complained, but overall, nintendo got the nice piece of cash at the end.
Filler's isn't really something to worry about that much. 'Oh my gosh sakurai we can't come up with a 45th character what do we do?' 'Lets drop this entire game that could sell millions out of our increativity!'
Ever think about things like development time to make one, sakurai and others may not wanting to, direction nintendo may be going in to be less appealed? Those are things that would likely take more of a hit than things like the roster and coming up with ideas, I mean, brawl had 700 people working on It.
Now, onto my post;
Back before the whole wii fitness stuff and all, smash was there top selling franchise, to just stop that would be crazy, but now nintendo seems to be reering into the casual focus area, so If we get one, It'll be a party game, that way everyone can play.
But seriously speaking, ideas are little problem, 700 people could think of ways up to go, and there's also the fans (Assuming sakurai doesn't completely forget about us this time) and more, but I mean, we don't even know which way nintendo will go and If It'll even be worth It.
I personally don't' care If we don't see one, being that I'm hardly into smash anymore, but these companies will come up with a way, sakurai has stated himself he had a good deal of ideas that didn't make it into brawl.
I can see one happening, but eh, who knows? I can also see one not happening with all the 'Hardcore' Games they keep pulling out and how sakurai wants It to be a quality series. It's really in the air.
Dangit, I sometimes make my posts to long or short ;-;
Smash has never been the top selling franchise, Mario, Pokemon, LoZ, in that order.

Whoops, but It's been a top selling franchise. I messed that up, but still, It is one big franchise, and they don't just 'Drop' Big franchises. They kill them slowly. See: Sonic.
That is when they can milk it.....Smash is extremely limited in its' essence. You take a bunch of characters, and make them fight. That's essentially it, the core of the game. You can't constantly reinvent it like you could, say, Mario, or Pokemon.

You might as well call every clone from SSBM a filler character.
Alot of the trophys that you can unlock can be played as characters, they just need to have a good moveset. Thats all there is to it.
I don't count clones fillers, because Falco and Ganon actually mean something to their series. Things like Mii's, Birdo, random Pokemon that don't contribute to the series, characters like Waluigi that were made in a spinoff, etc.
SSB4, not SSBB4.
I'm pretty sure Nintendo and/or HAL own the rights to the Smash name, and not Sora or Sakurai. Nintendo could make SSB4, no matter what Sakurai says. Will they? Probably not.
Will there be one? Most likely. Money is everything.

SSB4, not SSBB4.
Ahh, thanks, first person top point that out to me!!!
Also, there's tons from Brawl that can be improved upon. For instance, the Subspace Emissary... It just left you so... Empty. Just seemed like a mode where you go around, hoping you find new stickers and trophies, with no depth whatsoever. The story was a little moving, but all-in-all, it had a lot going for it, but didn't live up to its name. The characters were never really suited for the side-scrolling portions (which was basically every level), Peach to name one.
Stage Builder felt VERY limited. Instead of just paper, 2D backgrounds, maybe some real-time backgrounds? It wouldn't hurt to see some clouds moving or some water running. Also, the limit bar has to go, or at least be increased. I always get a good concept of a stage in my head, but it can't be done because of a freaking limit.
It also wouldn't hurt to attempt to try and balance the characters AGAIN...
I might be sounding a bit needy, but this is just my ideas of some improvements... :|
Didn't Brawl sell faster than any Nintendo game in the history of Nintendo games?
I don't think Nintendo wants to end the series that did that...

Yeah. After seeing how long it took for it to make it's release and the massive amount of delays it had, there's no telling how this is gonna turn out.
I really wouldn't mind seeing another Smash Bros. make it's way some time in the future though.
But that probably won't happen till a super long time.
Definitely. They won't just drop it, everybody loves it. They'll make more, with the guy or without him.
That's such a bare bones statement. Who is everybody? If "everybody" loved it, we wouldn't have a poor sap on this board that owes his friend money for thinking this would sell faster than Halo 3. Saying "everybody" loves Halo 3 is still a broad statement, but it has more merit to it.

SSB - sold almost half a million copies overall
SSBM - best selling Gamecube title (for lack of anything else on the system besides Metroid Prime, but I digress)
SSBB - sold over a million copies already
it sells quite well thank you...
definatly going to be a fourth. Hell, they just have to fix online and add a couple characters and I'd be happy XD

Fine,
most people like it. :P
Maybe this will change some of the doubter's opinions?
"It?s interesting, because after every Smash Bros. game I?ve made, I?ve always felt at that time that I?ve left nothing out. However, I also understand that there are millions of fans out there who love the series so if Mr Iwata came to me in a few years time and asked me to make another one, I?d have to give it some serious thought."

I 100% agree with you, and there are alot of new series comming out, and 3rd parties make the deal alot sweeter. Only amazingly picky people wouldn't buy Smash Bros. because there are "too many" characters from a particular series.
They might make one on the DS or something else minor but probably not on a console or a major title like Brawl, Melee, etc.
50-50
if it did happen it would be directed by nintendo, not sakurai. and it would be for nintendo's next big console, whenever that comes out.
Lots of mixed feeling, here ????
I think SSB4 will definitely come out, as:
1. Sakurai doesn't own Smash; they can make it without him, maybe even better!
2. Smash makes money, Smash is something fans love, so why would Nintendo think about canceling the series when continuing it is good for everyone?
3. There's still PLENTY of things that can be improved: more ________ (characters, stages, items, etc.), de-cloned characters, better Wi-Fi, bring back old stuff (Race to the Finish and Board the Platforms, anyone?), improved Story mode, a Stage maker that isn't so ridiculously limited, etc. etc. etc.
I'm not bothered for now, I'm good as it is.
I'm fine with melee, brawl, and smash 64 for now, brawl just came out like 4 months ago, we had to wait 7 years from melee to brawl
