A recent study released says that video games can be powerful learning tools (usually in the good sense, especially when parents are competent), and that surgeons that played video games showed better hand dexterity.
...So doesn't that just back up Jack's idea even more?...
... And who conducted this study?
Video games are always bad... Anyway surgeon can get more of a benefit with dexterity by playing a sport, and video games terribly deteriorate your eyes. Also, too much playtime slowly kills brain cells. One should play for an average of 2-3 hours spread out throughout the day in 1 hour intervals.
I'm not talking about such games as WiiFit, however... They help you burn calories :P
But yeah, video games are a drug. You get addicted to them up to the point where they start hurting you. Just look at those lifeless nerds :( :( :(

Please tell me your joking :| I can tell you many things wrong with that statement.
I'm sure about the dexterity (I mean, playing a sport trains aiming, timing, and gives you an overall workout) and the eyesight (we all knew this, children :|).
Not sure about brain cells. I know it does something to your brain, though :(
But hey, I might be wrong. Can't blame a gal for trying :| :| :|

True. I'm positive it does help hand dexterity. Nine years of games makes for a good Piano Player. And-

No, as a matter of fact, you are not sure about dexterity. Have you played any Football? Of course not. If you did, you would know that Football requires
no dexterity. Tennis?
No dexterity. Soccer?
No dexterity. Slight-of-hand magic tricks? Dexterity! Playing video games?
Dexterity. Did you fail to notice the common factor in activities that require dexterity? Although I will admit that proper physical activity is required for good health, you're just telling blatant lies about video games.
As for the eyesight, you get the most out of video gaming. In fact, there's a
video game that focuses on
improving eyesight. According to you logic, it would do the exact opposite. Obviously, you are wrong, seeing as the company would receive many lawsuits and go out of business. What company wants that?

Yes, it
stimulates them, which
improves how your brain works, and thus, give you a
higher IQ.

Guy or girl, you seemed awfully confident about your statements, but now saying you might be wrong? If you were aware of that possibility, you shouldn't have posted. As for me, I understand how the brain works, as well as the body. I understand that dexterity is credited to
fingers, seeing as it is the part of the body that values dexterity the most.
BTW in case you missed it, I advocate proper exercise, however, I was just fighting against you obviously wrong information.

Ummm... I'm sure you're the one who's played no sports. I play soccer, tennis, and practice Martial Arts, and I can tell you that if I handed you a tennis racket and served you the ball, you'd be head over heels, child >_>
Soccer? Knowing exactly where to hit the ball is key. I want you to try to kick the ball and perform an outside curve with it, would you?
I don't play football, but I know more than enough to know that football requires lots of dexterity. Knowing where the ball will land, and placing your hands in a position suitable for a catch require dexterity.
I just think you should get out more :| :| :|

I beg to differ. If you're playing games for over 2 hours straight, you can't tell me that your eyes aren't tingling. Why do you think most of those "lifeless nerds" have such thick glasses?
Yeah, I like video games. They're an extremely fun way to pass the time, but I know my limits.

Actually, I'm pretty good at tennis, thanks. I'd probably return that serve of yours. BTW dexterity=/=strength, get it right. That applies to anything that requires the use of muscles (yes, in some cases, that includes video gaming).

Irrelevant. The term you are looking for is "accuracy". In soccer, an accurate kick to the right place (on the ball) gets you the shot you want.

Do you even know what dexterity is? Knowing where the ball lands is all up to your eyes and brain. You approximate where the ball might land by following it's launch trajectory and acceleration. As for catching the ball, that is a
coarse movement, not a fine movement, which is what dexterous movement is.

Genetic defects, accidents at a really young age, etc. As of now, I have never required any eyewear, however, some of those shades are nice :D But seriously, watching TV would also (apparently) damage your eyes. Hell, even using the computer would (apparently) ruin you eyes. Do you know how long I've been using computers? Well do you?

And lawyers fight for their clients as if he/she is their God? I don't get it. All I'm doing is proving your obvious inaccuracies. Unless you can actually explain every single muscle movement used in those sports or properly explain the nervous system/functions of the brain, it will be hard to take your posts seriously. Also, this would be the third time that I stated that I advocate proper exercise.
tl;dr stop posting, seriously.

The main reason is actually that you're looking at something so close to your eyes for so long. Try handwriting a four-thousand word report without ever looking up from you paper. Chances are your eyes will feel like they are going to explode....Trust me. >.> And if I'm wrong, don't blame me, I fouond this out from my long-ass biology book last year.

You are an idiot. I left for school within the 25 minutes I've quoted earlier in the day. Now, are you actually going to respond, or are you just going to stick with such immature, uneducated answers?
That's one study. There are also several studies that say the opposite, hence results are inconclusive. There is no real observed cost/benefit ratio between gamers' and nongamers' health and well-being.
Thompson isn't out to can all video games, just ones that aren't rated EC. If you want to whine about him, whine about how he uses quasi-legal tactics to achieve his aims.
Thread sucks, and now it's over.
