Title: I have a few questions about ROMs (Sorry Huelen. D: )
Post by: Custom on August 21, 2008, 04:58:16 PM
Well, if you couldn't tell, I've been into Megaman lately. Mainly for the upcoming release of Megaman 9.

Anyway, since I am going on vacation soon, and going to Indiana (For my aunt's funeral.) next Friday, I have been thinking about downloading some Megaman ROMs to keep me occupied for the trips.

I know ROMs are illegal, but I have been hearing some things about if you own copies of the game it is considered a backup and legal. However, I only have Megaman Anniversary Collection (GCN). Is this considered owning a copy of Megaman 1 and 2, and would it be legal to get ROMs of?

Also, I need an emulator (sp) or something to make them work, since I am new to this can you find me one if this is all considered legal.. Well... What are the chances of getting caught? Anyone know?
Also does this work offline? I will be in the car while playing them.

tl;dr
I'm going to be bored soon.
Want fun games for car trip, want Megaman games.
Only have Megaman Anniversary Collection, does that make it legal or is it still illegal?
If it is legal I need an emulator or something.
Do those work offline?

Also, I'm pretty sure this is my first Power On thread.. >>

All ROMS are illegal unless you "made" the ROM yourself.  Emulators?

NES - JNES?
SNES - ZSNES
Nintendo 64 - I dunno
GBA - Visual Boy Advance
DS - No$GBA generally works, iDeaS for ones that require saves, I believe.

It's illegal unless you ripped it yourself.

Get SNESDS for SNES games and NESDS for NES games.

Well.........I presume you're taking along your lappy for the trip so you can play you're Emu's (http://www.emulator-zone.com)?

ROM'S (http://www.emuparadise.org/index2.php) aren't illegial unless you own a copy of said game(s)  ~ Who cares? :P

See all the people that downloaded music illegally and have a few CP images.

Okay, thanks for the links and info. I have decided I'm going to get them anyway, cause there is no way I can play I Wanna Be the Guy for 6-8 times 4 hours. D:

While you're at it, why not try to rip some sprites to submit to tSR?

Download a few sheets to get a reference to resize the emulator to before you rip.  Be forewarned, ripping may take some fun out of the game...

I find that the best emulators are

-UberNES (NES)
-ZSNES (SNES, BSX)
-Project 64 (N64)
-Kega Fusion (SG1000, SC3000, Gamegear, Sega Master System, Sega Genesis, Sega CD, Sega 32X)
-Ootake (TG16, TGCD)
-Visual Boy Advance (GB, GBC, GBA)
-Project Tempest (Jaguar, Jaguar CD)
