Title: It's a shame.
Post by: Tupin on August 21, 2008, 05:05:17 PM
So, I got a Neo Geo Pocket Color today, along with Pac-Man because it was cheap and I was always looking for one.

There aren't many games for it, the system came out in 1999 and was discontinued in 2000 after SNK was acquired by some pachinko company.  D:

Now I just need to find Metal Slug and Sonic Pocket Adventure...

Anyway, what's your favorite electronic commercial failure? I personally like the GCN and the Dreamcast, but the Virtual Boy also gets a nod for having decent games.

GCN is a failure? It sold 21 million last time I checked. Virtual Boy is win.

I liked the Virtual Boy.

You serious? I had one! It broke about 2 years after I got it though XD
I had Sonic Pocket Adventure (Its basically a Sonic 2 port with no Tails) and "King of Fighters" (God DAMN CHEAP BASTARD WITH THE FIRE POWERS!). It was very meh system.
Lol virtual boy.
We can't forget the Sega Master System XD

GCN's SA2:B commercials were horrible.

No way, get your own. >:

I might get a Game.com next.

21 million compared to 30 and 102 million respectively isn't that impressive. The Dreamcast sold half of what the GCN sold in it's entire lifetime in two years.

It would have been better if it lasted longer. Its port of Pac-Man is the best I have ever played, and Metal Slug and Capcom Vs. SNK: Millennium Fight are just plain awesome.

The Virtual Boy really isn't THAT bad. There's not really a bad game in it's library except for Waterworld, even if most, if not all of them could have been done on Gameboy.

The Master System is great too. Alex Kidd certainly is fun to play.

It wasn't horrendous, but just a pain  to use in general. Sorry, but the Genesis blows the Master System out of hte water.
I'd have to say the biggest gaming flop was the Phantom XD

When the hell did Xbox reach 30? Last I heard it was at 21 million.

I can say that Gamecube was a failure, COMPARED to the other systems of that gen (except Dreamcast).

Sega really didn't even try with the Master System.

Yeah, it would have been bad, but something that was even worse was released. The N-Gage.

When it came out, I would see store managers kind of mad because they had to cut into the GBA department to make room for the N-Gage, and when they didn't sell, they got mad.

Oh, it was 25 million, my mistake.

I don't remember the N-Gage cutting into the GBA department in Toys R Us back in the day...

Hell, my Gamespot didn't even bother having a display other than a few row saying "NGage, we have it if you want to waste your money"

I don't even think my Gamestop had shelf space for it, they had the games behind the counter. :D

I remember I played some Tony Hawk game on the N-Gage at an in store demo. It looked exactly like a GBA game, so I said, "What's the point?"

I remember wanting Tony Hawk for the GBA badly.  This time, I CAN say that the graphics matter.  It's not all that pleasant to look at while playing.

It sucks that an MMO based on leetspeak had to be on the N-GAGE.  :|

I still call Phantom as worst system ever. At least we got a good joke out of the ngage (TACOS!)

Anyway, I guess a Sega Genesis. I wouldn't call it a failure though. But out of every system I've owned, it's the worse.

Um...the Genesis is better than just about every system other than the SNES, PS2, and possibly the NES (depending on personal preference).
X_X;;

GCN was a massive failure. Other than Metroid and Melee it had basically nothing on any of the other systems.

Yeah, it's not the best system, but it was fine enough for me.

Not to mention lack of third party support (Capcom and Sega were the only ones to care), absolutely zero online (Sega made 1 game for online, that's it), and generally nothing origional (besides aforementioned Metroid)

Hey, if you are only going to have two third party companies supporting your system, Capcom and Sega are the ones to have.  :D

There were a few good new games like Pikmin, Cubivore, Viewtiful Joe, and Animal Crossing. Plus, the GCN had what is arguably the best Zelda game ever. It was just missing one thing. There was no GCN Pilotwings.  :(

WW is not the best Zelda game ever, and TP is a Wii game (it came out on Wii first).

Super Mario Sunshine? Worst of all the Mario platformers. Not saying it's bad, but compared to Galaxy and 64...it's just meh
Super Mario Kart Double Dash? Needed online for the Double to actually mean anything. But yea it was good
Super Mario Sluggers? shameless Mario spinoff. Golf is way better
Animal Crossing? Life-sim...need I say more?
Windwaker? Any game involving sailing and Tingle can't be that great.
Twilight Princess? Wii game
Sonic Gems Collection? Collection of old games
Please note I am trying not to blatantly lambast the Cube, since it isn't the worst system ever. Just a decent one. But when compared to the PS2 and Xbox it's flaws are really obvious

Selling the least doesn't mean it failed. Failing means selling horribly, which it didn't. N-Gage sold horribly.

Wow...you guys don't know failures.

GCN, that was 21 million, thats small compared to the PS2, but it's about equal to the amount the Xbox sold, so to call the GCN a failure is to call an Xbox a Failure....and Genesis was far from a failure....that was Sega's only successful console.

Here are some real failures.

-Atari 5200
-Atari 7800
-Atari Jaguar
-Atari Lynx
-Apple Pippin
-NEC PC FX
-Virtual Boy
-3D0
-CDi
-Neo Geo CD
-Sega Gamegear
-Sega Nomad
-Game.Com
-Gizmondo
-N Gage

The Gamecube was anything but a failure. Haven't you ever heard of Super Smash Bros Melee, Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, MarioKart DoubleDash, etc?
