Wait for Platinum. Or get Emerald, for some reason it seems a lot of people don't like it, but its one of my favorites. Or you could get Crystal, but then there is the battery issue...

If you can't wait, get Emerald, but if you can wait, still get Emerald.
You could get Platinum too if you wait.

i haven't bought a pokemon game since I got yellow for my birthday back in the day...
I bought Diamond.
I've been steamrolling everything through florastupidbugs area so far with the fire poke (named Mexican).
is this normal? :P
I also have a bird (forget what it's real name is, i called it birdninny)
a Geodude (called him Steoids)
one of those first bug guys (was a ninny to level up, called him BugHead or something lame like that)
and uhh... electroass, the first electric/physical one.

Thats normal. Its Floaroma Town, they are all grass types. Fire beats grass, so of course its going to be easy. It will get harder.

Thats normal. Its Floaroma Town, they are all grass types. Fire beats grass, so of course its going to be easy. It will get harder.
