Title: Game Boy HALP WANTED!
Post by: Level_9_Chao on September 04, 2008, 08:52:31 PM
Ok, a month or so ago, I bought the gray, green screened Game Boy. You know the one. I got it for 10 bucks, and it plays games and all that jazz just fine.

The problem is in the screen. I can adjust the contrast and such just fine, but (I dunno if other users have had this), several vertical lines of pixels of the screen don't function, at all. On max opacity (black) they're as if turned off. Looks like this:

Anyway, I've hit it on the sides a bit and that woke up about 3 lines, but it's still rather uncomfortable to play/look at. I was gonna bust into it (carefully) with a screwdriver (like take out the back plating and such) and fiddle with the screen, but if you have any other ideas, feel free to share.

Thanks MAN.

One time I spilled Snapple into my Gameboy Colour and the screen looked sort of like that, except much worse. Granted, the games played fine, it just felt like I was playing with a thin sock over my eyes.

I was told of a Gameboy that sat at the bottom of a pool for a month and only lost half its screen.

Any my friend's sister's game Boy Color survived a winter outside.

Game Boys are just durable enough not to be totally killed. But they piss you off when they start dying. >.>

I've seen it on five separate occasions. How does THAT screen work and not mine? >.>

Sounds like there's some connections loose on the screen.

That, and it works perfectly with no dead pixels or lines.

Yeah, I plan to go into it when my tri-wing screwdriver comes in. Any idea how to fix it, or how to see what's broken? Or should i just kind of press on the circuits and see what happens?

I have a new Game Boy coming in the mail anyway, though. Thanks, ebay. :P
