Blaziken basically hit the nail on the head. The program itself is not illegal, and neither is what it was originally intended for. However, it is easily used for piracy, and most people use it for that purpose.
Limewire is totally leagl. But if you get music and movies from it, thats another story

Limewire is so well known, that if the program itself was illegal, there would be someone making a move to shut it down.
But what you do with the program is another story.
Limewire is not downloading from some where from the net. You are sharing with everyone...So bascily some one out there had or to buy it first :P Or download it first >_> then everyone els got it from him. Don't forget Sharing is caring :)
Limewire is as illegal as Firefox or other web browsers are...
Just because you are able to download illegal things off of it as a result of what other users uploaded doesn't mean that the program itself is illegal.
