Title: Wow, this would have ruined Kirby.
Post by: Tupin on September 23, 2008, 07:11:12 PM
Kirby was going to be in a game for the SNES called Kid Kirby, despite the fact that he is a kid already. It was going to be developed by DMA Design and published by Nintendo, which would later become Rockstar. The game wasn't very far along before Nintendo pulled the plug. Probably because the game looks terrible.

What is up with that big curlicue on his head? Is that supposed to be a cowlick?  :|

Yeah, it does look pretty awful.
They just needed a better sprite artist.

More like Jigglypuff if you ask me...

Interesting note. A prototype wasn't found, an employee of Rockstar just found the sprite sheets on a computer and put them on his Flickr account. It IS real, but the only recorded evidence of this game existing is a Mexican Nintendo magazine from E3 1995 that said the following when translated:

"Something strange happened with Nintendo's titles in the Show. Comanche was postponed, but it was on display (at the show). However, Kid Kirby, which seems to use ACM technology was also postponed at the last minute - which was surprising because the game store demos were already completed / ready."

So, there might be a few floating around, probably somewhere in the Pacific Northwest.

hey, we found EB0, so we could find one of the prototype carts or something.

Would be interesting to see how the game plays.

Yeah, but Earth Bound was completed.

I doubt this game would barely be playable.
