Title: Oh good grief.
Post by: Silverhawk79 on October 13, 2008, 07:24:58 PM
http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/13/bush-signs-pro-ip-act-into-law/
The PRO-IP act has been signed by President Bush, which means that if the RIAA/MPAA finds any pirated stuff on your computer, they could potentially sieze your computer and all portable media devices with pirated content on them. This is bullpoop, seriously. Way to go, Congress. Instead of worrying about our economy or other really important stuff, you go after people downloading Bioshock or whatever. Good job.

If you're only downloading songs, it probably won't be much of a problem. If you're torrenting thousand dollar programs like photoshop, movies, or games, it's not so good.

Another reason to get GIMP?

This reminds me of that period in the 90's when there was a war going on and all the bills in Congress were about breakfast cereal and video games.

Speaking of which, this better not apply to roms.

Unless a Liberal government is elected, in which case it'll be illegal. Of a Conservative minority. Or NDP elected. Or Green. Or BQ. You better hope for a Conservative majority, or else I'll laugh my ass off at your post.

Uhh,

1. the BQ can't win an election, the NDP and Greens will never, ever come remotely close.

2. The Conservatives were the ones who initiated the RIAAish bill in the first place.  however, itll never get passed, because it didnt get passed before summer kicked in, and will therefore be forgotten about.

So how much does Sony Vegas 9 or whatever cost?

:3

And yes, this does suck. My entire library is pirated, except for maybe 2-3 songs.

I don't even think he really knows what he is signing.

Bush was such an average president, which really isn't what America needed these past eight years. Sadly, the general population didn't figure that out until they re-elected him.

Also, this doesn't include games because the ESA governs pirated games and they are not covered under the bill.  ^_^

...Nice.

No one pirates movies/TV shows anymore, we just watch them online. As for music, no one cares if you download music anymore, so many people do it, it's not worth it to investigate.

when Dion loses this election, Ignatieff will move in as the leader, and there'll be a Liberal resurgence.

This means nothing. It's an empty promise with no real backing.
If they were actually serious with this, then just about anyone with a computer would have their system jacked.
It's just not physically possible to enforce such a law.

Also, it's just to please the whining record execs losing money while they call their senator pals from their houses by the beach. X_X;;

And I thought about Peanuts as well when I read the title.
Oh c'mon the Peanuts are great Silver what're you talkin about? XD
