I'm glad torrents have come so far. Less than three years ago, all the cool kids were using Limewire, which is, by a genius' definition, a program so buggy that it will forever be in beta testing, with your expensive computers as the guinea pigs. Nevertheless, many still use Limewire, but for the most part, people don't cringe with misunderstanding when you use the term torrent.

I typically torrent only movies and shows that I can't find on Hulu. For such cases, I use what I have been using since the beginning, which is torrentz.com. For software, though, I use Scrapetorrent, simply because it isn't listed in Torrentz' search cue.

You're not being very specific on what you mean, so I'm going to assume you are talking about Limewire and how it brutally kicks your computer in the nads:

Quite simply, it's not just that. Limewire installs little "ghost files" on your computer so it can index it and give files to other people. But because this program is so poorly constructed, many times it will cause other applications to fail, or even itself. For example, I used Limewire for two months,  after which I immediately downloaded Transmission and never touched the bloody item again. Immediately after the said use, my bluetooth failed to operate.

After searching various help sites, I discovered that I was not alone. Many like me faced the same problems, some of which were worse. One lad, who may have been using Limewire longer than I had (or had simply been very unlucky) had his harddrive fried due to the application. But moving along, I swiftly removed the application and, due to other failures in the system after it had been deleted (whether or not it was because of Limewire is unknown, although it is the likely suspect), I decided to install a clean version of my OS, wiping the harddrive clean.

To this day, bluetooth works like a charm, and so do my torrents.

Yea, I meant Limewire XD
hooray for simple file-share systems that only affect the file being transmitted! :D

uTorrent for programs, isoHunt, Mininova, or TPB for torrents.

I only torrent music or games, mostly. I can just watch TV or movies on TV Links.

I quit using *wire programs a long time ago. Rapidshare/Megaupload/etc. and torrents have everything I need.
Everything.

i really don't use any of them and I never have. Illegaly downloading music is stealing from the artist. This is actually one of the biggest reasons why the music industry is doing so badly. people are downloading songs for free.  Some artists can't go on tour anymore and some have to wait longer to make new records because of lack of money. I just use iTunes and I only buy music. I fail to see the point of renting I movie so I can watch it on my iPod instead of watching it on a 40-inch TV that I already have the DVD for. Occasionally I'll buy a CD, but most stores never have the one I want, that's why iTunes is perfect. It has almost everything, it's legal, and it doesn't hurt the artist.

And yet most big labels usurp most of the money from CD sales and artists usually make most of their money from concerts and merchandise and stuff like that.

Exactly. Because of all this limewire poop artists have to depend on their shows for their profit. Its kind of sad that some artists can't even go on tour because they can't pay for gas. you can thank limewire and esnipps for that.

I don't see file sharing via the internet as an issue, for those saying it hurts the artist. The artist shouldn't be doing it for capital gain, and solely capital gain, it should be because they like doing it, and making people happy. Furthermore, the fact that people are listening to your music at all should be flattering. In the end, it just means more people at your concerts, where you truly make money. So, don't dis file sharing.

Um...you do realize that the vast majority that the band itself makes is from concerts. The record companies generally pay for the tour stuff (becaue they're the ones making money from CD's and the like). As your link from the previous post sugguests, it's because there is too much crap to buy. Why should I spend all this money on a player, then buy the music so it'll work on it, when I can get music for free? I mean, I spent about 150 bucks for my iPod (which was cheap considering what it was, but still too overpriced for essentially a hardrive with a fancy screen). Like I said, I have an iPod, but 100% of the music is downloaded. Again, why should I spend 25 bucks for 12 songs on a CD when I can get it for free online? The customer is just doing what is in their self interest (Capitalism at it's finest people...). Although I will digress much of it you can't get here in the states (Megaman Remix collection, Bleach OST, etc. so it's perfectly legal HA!). Besides, band's shouldn't do it soley for the money. If they are then they're in the business for all the wrong reasons.
You would think that people getting music for free would cause the music industry to change their plan of attack and give people a reason to buy their stuff, but instead they whine, moan, and cry foul when they're the ones overcharging their product in the first place... X_X;;

I got spoiled by good audio quality though so I don't like it when the audio quality is under 256kbps at the least, full stereo.

Albums are such a small percent of artist's profit, it's not even funny.

It all comes from shows and selling their songs off for other media.
