Poll
Question: What's your opinion on having multiple playable characters in Sonic games?
Option 1: I hate it; it should always be regular Sonic.
Option 2: I only like Sonic, but different forms like Super and Were are nice.
Option 3: It's good, but only when it serves as a small break from Sonic.
Option 4: I love it; games in which multiple characters have equal importance and play time are best.
Option 5: Forget Sonic altogether; get me Tails the Video Game!!

Yep, it's time for another Sonic poll.  So... what's your favorite Sonic game style in terms of characters?  I prefer each character getting near-equal play time, like in SA2B.

After the last few sega debacles with overusing characters, use them minimally or none at all.
It's called SONIC THE HEDGEHOG, not sonic and his annoying pals who bring nothing to the game since sega made them slow as hell and unfun to play as.

Maybe once the series can re-establish itself by keeping Sonic solo for a while, they can slowly add back playable characters like Tails, Knuckles, and Robotnik. (Believe it or not, I liked his levels in SA2.)

For the time being, Sonic should be alone.

Sonic shouldn't be alone, no, but his allies should have minimal amounts of game time, a level or too, and strictly optional. Except in games like the RPG.

I voted this. While some types of missions those characters have may annoy me (Big the Cat, Amy in Sonic Adventure, a few emerald hunting levels in SA2B, and Shadow's light and dark missions), I generally like more characters. The way Sonic Adventure treated it seems better than SA2B's in the sense that the characters are split and you don't have to finish one character's mission before doing the next mission of another character. Too many of the characters are one-time sort of thing. Metal Sonic could be nice, Amy would be nice if not for that immortal robot in SA, etc.

Forget Sonic altogether; get me Tails the Video Game!!
Tails' Adventure and Tails' Skypatrol both suck. Not to blame on the character but really the games. I honestly do like playing as Tails more than Sonic where he's selectable, but I still like the other characters including Sonic being available.

Uh, I don't see why those mech missions would be particularly hated. The only part I hated about them was the fact that they made Tails completely unplayable because of him being replaced by his mech: Cyclone.

Why is it that most people here are just posting and not using the poll?

Personally, I think every character should at least get some playable role, perhaps in a completely OPTIONAL level. Just because the formula of Sonic runs right forever works doesn't mean it always has to be that way. But they'd have to be optional because every Sonic purist will hate the game forever if they aren't.

I'd love it if Tails and Knuckles could have their own levels where they have to reach the goal by running and not treasure hunting or anything like that.

Also, no more Tails + Cyclone.
