Title: Guitar Hero World Tour Review.
Post by: Thirdkoopa on October 27, 2008, 09:59:58 AM
K, since I thought a new thread here would be better for this, I might as well put my review/impression/thought thingy of WT Here. If you have gigantic thoughts or just some thoughts or impressions of wt and/or rock band 2, feel free to post them here.

First off, are you looking for the ultimate four player game? Something like I dunno, Brawl, Halo 3, LittleBigPlanet, and others are not good enough? Look no further. Guitar Hero World Tour Is your answer.

Really, at first you may think things like 'Just another rock band rip-off' Or 'OMG LOL IT'S TO EASY' It really Isn't. The career mode has gigs for each one, with one song after another, and you or a band member can change your difficulty If you want to upgrade for a song that's to easy or downgrade for a song that you were the cause of the bands failure, with some gigs like the Tool Gig, and the 'Final Gig' With your band having to save up money from other gigs.

The song creator is pretty much what I expected It to be, hard to use and insanely overhyped feature. Heck, other than doing crazy freestyles, It's kind of annoying to make a new song. This is something to focus on after beating the game/other stuff.

Now then, onto the songs and instrument overview part;
Guitar - For the instruments themselves, the TAC PS2-PS3 Adapter works perfectly unlike some complaints of 3. The new guitar is fine, the only thing I dislike Is how It's shaped like rock bands strum bar a bit, but I guess that's just me. Really like the touch strip, extended whammy bar, and star power easy button.

The 'DO A HOLD NOTE WHILE PUSHING OTHER NOTES' Is a lot easier than It looks. Only two songs I remember having trouble with those are shiver and one armed scissor. It takes little getting use to, but It for sure won't make you fail a song.

was able to pass everything on sightread, but some of the songs almost failed me (christ at hot for teachers intro <_<) And since I was with a full band earlier, going to later try getting better scores and stuff by myself and do the solo career. The SG Is still my favorite guitar to use, but both are pretty even for me.

Bass - Nothing much here, but the open notes take quite a bit of getting use to on expert, and bass I found less boring (especially when we got to harder bass songs like BYOB)

Drums - Despite It having five pads and feeling really awkward compared to rock band's drums, It was actually pretty good (I had a lot of worries about It at first) It's really great. The pedal feels a lot better than rock bands pedal, It's a lot easier to set up, the cymbals are actually really durable and very close to the pads, and drums in the game is presented really well.

...Oh and drummers, watch out for Scream Aim Fire, dangit, Pull Me Under, Hot for Teacher, and a few others. Expert charts = You need a new arm.

Vocals - A bit awkward to get use to, so heck, even as a rock band expert vocalist, I'll need some time with this before I perform It online. I still can't remember what the heck those hands do, but honestly, like drums, vocals was presented really well in this game. No annoying cowbell or anything like that, and some songs like 'Hey Man, Nice Shot' And Tools Schism were found really fun by the vocalist in the group of my friends.  Most of the songs are really fun to play on vocals.

Oh and the mic barely changes, but It has a guitar hero sign on it lololol.

The Full Band gameplay - Very awesome. Even tho It felt really short due to doing It all in one run, It was quite long. This is how to really get the most out of the game. While the guitar and other solo career's are fun, I found being in a full band well...A lot more fun.

The system Itself is very forgiving on idiots to the game while pretty annoying to more professional people, heck, my friend was able to get only 39% On bass on beginner (It was for lulz), yet we hardly ever got into the red. I liked how everyone shares the same meter yet there's meters below for each person, so It feels more like 'If one person fails, everybody fails' In an attempt of working together.

There's not much else I can say. Totally worth at least a rental or trying It out with some friends. The game was worth all the hype I had In It, and the cash for It.

Oh, and some of the best songs/hardest songs that I found:
Satch Boogie (Only guitar, but the drums were a bit annoying)
Pull Me Under (Doesn't look hard on guitar, and heck on guitar, you probably won't even fail unless If you're really not that good, but as a full band, I found this one hard and fun...And It felt like this song was 14 minutes long. Say hi to the new freebird)
Scream Aim Fire (omg at the guitar and drums)
Hot For Teacher (^^)
Never Too Late (omg at the intro)
Mr.Crowley (omg at the second solo)
Trapped Under Ice (omg at the solo's)
BYOB (omg at EVERY FREAKING INSTRUMENT, hi new open notes and new raining blood)
Love Removal Machine (only thing that was a major problem was singing)
Purple Haze (Vocals and guitar were the only annoying parts, mainly the ending of purple haze)

Songs that were fun:
Love Me Two Times (Best drum/guitar ending ever)
No Sleep Till Brooklyn (I laughed so hard at the vocalist, and one of the only songs we had multiple runs of due to everyone that isn't me doing bad. first song with the game I did :) )
Assassin
Re-Education Through Labor
Hotel California (The length annoyed me, but still fun as an encore)
Soul Doubt (Tricky song)
Everlong
The Middle
One Armed Scissor
Prisoner of Society
Mr.Crowley (Yes I know I listed It as hard, but It was still funny, and the vocals were lolworthy)

And most of the songs turned out real great, discluding a few.

If you want to ask me anything else about the game, feel free to do so, and I'll get onto answering those questions, so in the meanwhile, GO RENT/BUY/PLAY THIS GAME NOW (Full band experience is recommended)

I'll probably write out more later, but I think that's enough for now, oh and finally.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HZ7oUIQoYOI < LOL I CAN'T ENTER FLASH.
Any drummer in your band better be prepared for having the paitence of standing the 3 minutes of red notes (On medium, easy, and I think hard, all It is is red notes and kick pedal) On the road Again was so annoying that the drummer in my group failed from not being able to stand this song.

Oh, and some of my scores might not be on the leaderboards since my internet's been annoying (thus one reason explaining why I haven't shown up here much ever since saturday)

Anyhow, discuss.

I agree with everything you said here (except for the drums, I haven't played them yet.)

Though I just want to say that the interface is horrible. You have your score (which has a weird font that makes it hard to read), the rock meter, and the starpower bar on the left, and your multiplier on the right side of the fretboard. Major design flaw if you ask me. Also, there where times I didn't even know I had starpower due to insufficient onscreen notification, but that wasn't as much of a problem. Speaking of on-screen pop-ups, they added even more this time, with the words Hot Start! coming up if you hold your combo for the first 25 notes of the song. This doesn't bother me too much, but it's completely unnecessary.

Just my two cents.

Only thing that's bothering me in this game so far is the drums.
Sensitivity is WAYYY messed up.

In fact I hear that they're giving away a free program to adjust the sensitivity cuz too many people were complaining.

It's happening to me as well.

Anywho, I'm proud of myself. I beat Satch Boogie, lol.

It doesn't feel like GH anymore to me, too much new stuff and not enough old stuff.

And what, did Neversoft just get worse at charting songs?  I think songs like Rooftops and Ramblin' Man have note charts that hardly matches the music.

The songs are meh, to me there wasn't any 'middle grounds'  there was horrible songs and good songs.  I hated the tool venue and the songs that was done there.  But then we have Hotel California, Sweet Home Alabama, and others.

I was planning on basically devoting my life to the music studio once this game came out, it turns out I can hardly use it X_X

It's hard to decide which is better this time araound, RB2 or GH:WT...
