Ok, here's what's happening. Me and my brother are getting a 360 for Christmas a extra controller, and a game. I think you know where this is going....
What game should I get? Ridley says Halo 3 because it's fun and goes online. Or if not a FPS, SC4.
I say Ghost Recon 1 or 2, because I've played that game on my friend's 360, and they kick ass.
Which game? (It doesn't matter if it's one of the ones posted above.)
Halo 3 is awesome, or you could get the new CoD. However, online multi-player requires a cable or 100$ wireless adapter, and then you have to pay for online as well.

Halo 3?... seriouslaa?
I'd thoroughly recommend checking out Left 4 Dead. If not, get Call of Duty 4. Once you play CoD4, you can't go back to Halo 3, because it just dominates it that badly.
I would say Halo 3.
I have played both CoD4 and 5.
and I just like Halo 3 more.
Plus, we can play together on Halo 3.
Also, I suggest Sonic unleashed too.
And Soul calibur 4.
..and far cry 2...
...AND Fallout 3. :P
