Surprising that Nintendo is completely overlooking/ignoring it, considering that half of the topics on their GCN techforums board are about it (http://techforums.nintendo.com/nins/board?board.id=other_gcn), but the Wii is extremely likely to corrupt official 1019-block memory cards. 3rd party cards seem to be fine, though. As are 59 and 251-block cards.
If you have a 1019-block memory card, don't use it when playing GCN games on your Wii. Seriously. I didn't find this stuff out until after my card died D=
As far as I know, no Wii updates have even poked at this issue yet. Well, there's a chance that one of the updates caused it. But only one update has been made since my memory card was killed.
hmm... i haven't heard anything about this.
i have the smaller one, like you said, works perfectly.
One time my Wii began melting my 251. I have no idea why.
But my friend has 2 1019s... any reason why his aren't dead yet, or why the Wii kills 1019s? Aside from the possibility of updates.
I guess no one reads my posts that say this: "If you keep your memory card in your Wii when you are not playing it, it will probably get corrupted, but if you take it out, it will be fine"
Or that's how it is for me anyway, 'cause all my memory cards work fine on my Wii. (One got corrupted once, but that's 'cause I left it in the Wii overnight, but after letting it cool off, it got un-corrupted)

The memory cards that are being messed up are messed up
during gameplay.
For mine, I loaded the game file, saved about three times over a span of a few hours that I had the game turned on during, then when I tried saving a fourth time, I got the corruption error (then tried blowing dust out, retrying, and various other stuffs that didn't help). If something from the Wii's heat or idleness is causing it, then the issue wouldn't randomly pop up in the middle of gameplay after it has already succeded just recently. It's probably that, when games have a script to save to the Gamecube cards, something weird about the Wii's GCN-emulation screws up and ends up mistakenly corrupting the card but the mistake can only be made with 1019 cards. I'm pretty sure they can patch the GCN emulation. And again, if it was caused by overheating, it wouldn't discriminate between cards of varying filesizes.
And it's not like all 1019 cards die the first time you use them. I've had my Wii since... March 2007 I think. I've been playing Gamecube games on it with this memory card ever since then. It didn't die until September 2008.
I never heard about that. I don't think I have 1051 block memory card, though. Just the 50-something and the 200-something.
How do I know if I have a 1019 block Memory Card?
I have 2, but I can't remember what sizes I have.

I think I have that one.
I'm pretty sure I've played it and kept it in my Wii and nothing has happened to it before.

1. The 59 memory cards are grey, the 251 cards are black, and the 1019 cards are white
2. Go to data management (in the options menu of Wii) and see how much space you have in comparison to how much you have saved
Oh, I just checked my email:

Gamecube 1019-block memory cards (which had the Nintendo seal of quality on the packaging) seem to sometimes be damaged when GCN games save to them while being played on a Wii although they are otherwise handled properly with no removal during saving nor storage in high or low temperatures.
At the official tech forums, numerous examples of people who have had this problem have posted topics in the Gamecube board (http://techforums.nintendo.com/nins/board?board.id=other_gcn), so it's evidently not a very rare problem.
Will a future Wii Update fix this issue? Is there any way to bring back at least some files from a corrupted card?[/spoiler]

It's that it can happen, not that it necessarily will. But as time goes on, the chance increases of getting issues, especially if you play GCN games frequently.
Hmm, my MadCatz 1019 card was corrupted on my Wii after doing fine on GCN for years. Is this Nintendo's fault or MadCatz fault?

Could be either. Or maybe both.
MadCatz memory cards tend to be too unreliable to do fine for years when judging from experiences of people I know. But breaking only when playing on Wii might hint at it being Nintendo's fault.
