Title: My thoughts on my 2008 DS games
Post by: Sk8teland85 on November 20, 2008, 05:23:26 AM
Well I am likely only going to be getting one more game this year, that being Chrono Trigger. But here are my thoughts on the DS games I have bought so far this year. Feel free to add in your opinions about your purchases if you like to.

1) Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Ring of Fates - This was a title I got but had no idea what to expect. Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles for the Gamecube was an okay game IMO but was not what I was expecting it to be. It just did not feel like a title worthy of the Final Fantasy name at least to me. This game on the other hand ended up being all I wanted the first game to be.

There was a nice story all be it a bit cliche and a bit on the short side. The gameplay was very fun and enjoyable and was very easy to get the hang of. It also looked very good for a DS game and the addition of some voice acting was also very nice. The only drawbacks I had were that the game was way too short and there was no Online Multiplayer. But other than those issues I really enjoyed this game.

2) Final Fantasy IV - This was without a doubt one of the titles I was really looking forward to. Final Fantasy IV on the SNES was actually the first RPG I ever played and is one of my favorites of the whole series. This game did not disappoint I will tell you that.

I just enjoyed this game. The great job they did retelling the story, the nice new visuals, the addition of voice acting, the redone soundtrack, just about everything I loved. This is my favorite of the Final Fantasy remakes thus far and is one of my favorite DS games ever.

3) Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood - Now this was a title I had no idea what to expect out of. I am a Sonic fan and a fan of RPGs so I figured it would be worth a try. Overall I will say it is not that bad really and was a lot of fun to play.

There where some nice things about this game. The story was well done, the gameplay worked well overall, and the special attacks while tedious at times where still fun to do. But this game is not without it's drawbacks. For one, the game does not get hard more annoying since the enemies get so much HP that battles can last forever it seems. Another grip is while yes the special attacks where fun to do, in a long battle they can get really annoying. But still this game is a lot of fun and worth checking out.

4) AWAY Shuffle Dungeon - This was my most recent DS game purchase. I got this one out of curiosity more than anything else. Since I enjoyed the first 2 Mistwalker games (Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey) I figured this one might be worth a look. I am glad to say it was well worth the look since it really has been a fun little game.

Now at it's core AWAY Shuffle Dungeon is a basic Dungeon Crawler RPG like the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon games and Children of Mana. But this game adds an interesting twist to it. You see the dungeon stretches across both screens and at random the section of dungeon on a particular screen can shuffle to something else. This really makes this game unique and adds some nice challenge to it. It can be annoying at times though since Shuffles can happen very fast but still this one is well worth checking out.

Well there are the DS games I have bought so far this year. As I stated earlier, feel free to add in your games for this year and what you thought of them.
