Title: Vector graphics in published video games
Post by: bluaki on November 22, 2008, 10:40:55 AM
No, I don't mean simple swf games you can find on the internet, but real published games for consoles or handhelds or whatever.
The only such game I know of is World of Goo (I think... not entirely sure at that that it's vector). Notice how the goo balls don't seem pixelly, and that instead of having sprites, the borders between objects are extremely smoothed and that the objects freely rotate and swing about.
Super Paper Mario might count as one, but I'd say it's more like regular 3D objects which are normally viewed from the side and are mostly flat. or something like that.
Does anyone here know of other published games which appear to use vector graphics?

(if you have no idea what I mean, vector graphics are like flash things which can easily be rescaled, moved, and stuff. They are made up of curves and paths instead of pixels. Image example: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:VectorBitmapExample.png )

Well, there was an entire system in the 1980's that displayed nothing BUT Vector graphics.

It was called the Vectrex.

Plus, Asteroids had Vector graphics.

Wind Waker was cell-shaded. Which is almost the same thing as a vector iirc.

Here's a list of them.

They primarily were an 80's arcade thing, since they were sharper and clearer than traditional raster graphics. Once again, a system called the Vectrex had nothing BUT games with Vector graphics.
