Okay, I might do a miniseries on my youtube channel regarding what the best 3D Sonic game should be like, and I'm asking around opinions on what it should be. So I guess just post away or something along those lines.
It should be 2.5D like Sonic Rush.

Sonic Rush was 2D with changes in perspective.
2.5D would be Secret Rings...
Then what I guess I meant was that everything is rendered in 3D, but movement is restricted to up and down and left and right.
Like New Super Mario Bros.
How is secret rings not 3D? Are you sure you didn't mean Sonic Unleashed is 2.5D?

You don't have the option to go anywhere. It's always forward while adjusting how far left/right you are on said path (see the early Crash Bandicoot games as an example).
Unleashed...is hard to say. It's not quite 3D per se but it's not 2.5 since you can technically go where you want regardless of path...
Am I the only one who likes the gameplay type in (Sonic or Mech stages of) Adventure 1 and 2 better than the side-scrolling gameplay type of the 2D games?
I'd say something considered the best 3D Sonic game to me would:
*Have several characters playable, perhaps some of these:
Sonic: Same type of control as Adventure 2, for the most part. Stages incorperate Adventure, Speed, and Action.
Shadow: In all gameplay purposes, Sonic-clone, perhaps with very slight adjustments.
Tails: Have stages and objectives similar to Sonic (just reach the goal), but with some flying involved.
Amy: Stages for the most part like Sonic's, though small emphasis added to hammer and she runs a bit slower than Tails.
Eggman: Mech stages like he has in Adventure 2.
Gamma-like robot: Similar to Eggman, but enough tweaks to make it more resemble Gamma's gameplay.
Knuckles: Power-based (like werehog, but with more speed and better combos). Can be skipped to continue story.
*Chao garden with alignment petting, chao drives, animals, SA2-based races, Karate, Kindergarten, online, multiple gardens, and more.
*Characters each have their own stages in the story. Players don't have to repeat the same stage with several characters.
*That doesn't necessarily mean that they can't play in other characters' levels. Perhaps, as an unlockable bonus after finishing the story, any character can play in any stage. With very slight differences made to allow finishing it, like remove a gate that has to be rolled under or add springs to make up for less jump or flying ability
*Levels can be finished quickly and speedily, but it is also possible to slow down some, explore, and find alternate pathways or hidden secrets.
*Power-ups, for things like bouncing, light-dash (if not available from start), or something like Mystic Melody.
*Additional missions in each stage, like Adventure 2 has.
*Some sort of subgame, like how the two Adventures had flying (in Tornado plane), snowboarding, and driving/racing.
Of course, these are things I would like. And my preferences are a bit weird. Considering Nayrman is the one who made this thread, I doubt he'll agree with any of these, which makes this list a little useless to the youtube channel. Oh well >.>
Now THAT sounds like a great 3D Sonic game, Bluaki.
Bluaki, that seems like the gameplay of Sonic Adventure 2 with a few things added, which would be good.

This clearly shows that people miss a game like Sonic Adventure 2. :P

I really don't understand why Sega went off on a tangent and made their later Sonic games (Heroes, Shadow, etc) not based off the Adventure/2 engine. Whatever they did on the controls in the Adventures, it was as near perfect as I'd care for, and I'd far prefer an Adventure 3 to any other Sonic derivation Sega's coming up with.

Best idea ever.

I've been trying to finish playing Heroes recently.
That game is so mindblowingly frustrating for the dumbest reasons.
I lose a life because my character can't get on to a freaking tiny little beam.
It's ridiculuous.
Blukai's idea=Sonic Adventure 3.
