Title: I'm torn between GH:WT and RB2. ARGH
Post by: Java on November 23, 2008, 08:07:51 PM
Before the two came out, I was pretty set on Guitar Hero: World Tour, but as of late, I've also been thinking of getting Rock Band 2.

I've heard a variety of things that have confused me.

I've heard that Rock Band plays better if that makes any sense, but that Guitar Hero's instruments make it more fun.

Difficulty is no factor in my decision, as I'm not very good anyway, so I'll be challenged by both easily.

However, the set list has also started to confuse me.
I thought I liked GH's setlist more, but then I started to think that there may be songs on RB that I'll grow to love.

Songs that I'm excited for in GH:WT:
American Woman
Are You Gonna Go My Way
BEAT IT
Crazy Train
Everlong
Eye of the Tiger
Go Your Own Way
Heartbreaker
HOTEL CALIFORNIA
LA BAMBA
LIVIN' ON A PRAYER
One Way or Another
Rebel Yell
SANTERIA
Shiver
SWEET HOME ALABAMA
THE MIDDLE
What I've Done (Yeah I like that song >_>)

Songs that I'm excited for in RB2:
American Woman
ANY WAY YOU WANT IT
Carry On Wayward Son
E-Pro
Everlong
Give It Away
Go Your Own Way
HUNGRY LIKE THE WOLF
LIVIN' ON A PRAYER
One Way or Another
THE MIDDLE
Where'd You Go?
White Wedding

There's probably more for each that I might know, but I'm not completely sure and songs that I'll probably end up liking.
Based on the songs that I'm excited for, for each, is there any way of knowing which I'd probably like more?

AGHHHH. Why must this decision be so difficult?

Just so you know, the What I've Done chart in GH:WT is booooooooooring.
That said, I'd go with GH:WT, just because that's the only one I've played. I might get RB2 soon.

Well, I've played both (RB2 on the 360 and WT On the PS3 and I think wii) And I'd go with WT If I was you.

Since I know you only own a wii, even If RB2 allows DLC Well, It won't matter/not that much since the wii has a small harddrive.

The setlists...Eh, listen to more on both sides. I ended up liking WT's more after playing most and listening to all of the songs on both games. Considering that most of the songs you listed on them are on both, (i.e. the middle, eye of the tiger, everlong, etc) then It seems like WT Has more energy on there.

As for extra features, If you're a real musician as well, the music studio turns out less of a miss than a hit.

RB Doesn't really 'Play Better' It's just that WT Has some things that may make It hard to adjust to. Really, shared star power is something where your band has to work together, but during something like online, you may get paired up with someone who ends up using a lot of It at stupid timings. <_< They're both still pretty similar.

Equipment; Guitar on WT Is better, RB2's is incredible meh. (Feels pretty much just like WT's) Both drumsets are ok, and the mic is obviously the same. Considering that both guitars and mics work with each other, once there's a drum patch or rb3, you could just get disc only for one/both next year. Since you're probably in It for guitar gameplay, I'd go with WT Equipment wise.

Oh, and as far as I know, RB2 doesn't come out on the wii for quite a while, however, harmonix is being more promising on It.

Honestly, both are great. You'll enjoy your choice either way (Well, I hope you do ;p) So, hope this helped your choice.

Yes. Linkin Park's 'What I've Done'. Still pretty fun on vocals and drums, and It helped me get use to those 'hold a note and hit another' things.

That's all you're excited for when it comes to WT? Trust me man, there's more good songs. Joe Satriani's "Satch Boogie" is godly, and to my surprise they included The Stone Roses' best song off their second album, "Love Spreads." Dream Theater's "Pull Me Under" is also awesome, though not the best example of their work honestly, and they could've picked a better song by them.

Other good songs in WT that you haven't mentioned:

"Rooftops (A Liberation Broadcast)" by Lostprophets
"Float On" by Modest Mouse in rb2 lol
"Love Me Two Times" by The Doors (though I'm sure plenty of other people hate this)
"Stranglehold" by Ted Nugent
"Mr. Crowley" by Ozzy Osbourne
"Trapped Under Ice" by Metallica

I knew someone would mention something about the music.

I like to use GH/RB to broaden my horizons.

I may not know all the songs, but I'm open to listening to them.

Because if I didn't then you're right. ::)

I enjoy both Guitars and Vocal and I'd like to get better at Drums.
So basically I'd like the whole set.

I should probably listen to more songs on both.

Thank you though, you've really helped. :)

Last I've heard, RB2 Wii is coming out December 16th, and will have the same features as 360/PS3 (online, BWT, DLC, custom characters).

I have GHWT, but I don't really play it that often, and I don't feel like there are many good songs available for DLC as of now. Maybe two or three...

I agree that the GHWT hardware is better, the guitar is awesome and the drums are fun, but take a while to get use to if you started on the RB drums.

I would have to disagree and say that the RB software is better than GH unless music maker is something you really want. Everything feels a lot cleaner, and the interface makes sense. I have no idea why Activision decided to put the multiplier on the right side of the fretboard all by itself, with the other things like star power bar and rock meter scattered all about.

Take from this what you will.

Yes. It's boring, repetitive, and hella easy.

Uh, I have no problem with the games maybe giving you one or two great new bands to listen to that you just hadn't gotten around to before, but for the most part, these games are really not a good way to expand one's musical taste. It carries the bias of radio hits in classic rock, the bias of shredding in metal, and the bias of teenage girls in almost everything else, save for a couple decent alternative bands now and then.

Okay I finally listened to the songs you recommended.

"Satch Boogie" was awesome.
"Love Spreads" was pretty good. I didn't listen to it much, but I'll try to listen to more of it later.
"Pull Me Under" was interesting. I liked it.
"Rooftops" was pretty good, but I need to listen to it more to get a better opinion.
"Float On" was good, but I didn't like the lead singer's voice too much.
I thought "Love Me Two Times" was a great song! Thanks for recommending it.
"Stranglehold" was also pretty good.
"Mr. Crowley" was good, but like "Rooftops", I need to listen to it more.
I've never really liked Metallica too much, so I didn't really like "Trapped Under Ice". Maybe I just don't like that genre.

So, all in all, most of the songs you recommended were pretty good.

I'm assuming this was the thread you were talking about, Java?

Anyways, I've only gotten to play GH:WT, so that's the only one I can recommend.

I have both, and I feel that GH:WT sucks. I love Rock Band 2, as I do GH:WT's guitar mode. If you want a game for all instruments, get Rock Band. I feel it just plays better. The vocals and WT are just broken.
Hell, if it wasn't for DLC I would like the set list in WT much more than the set list in RB2. RB2 has amazing DLC though.

I do not have the WT drums, but I have the RB2 drums. Playing drums in WT just feels terrible. My friends that did get the WT drums often complain about things not working right though. (Go ask Www4 about his red button)
I'm playing on the 360 though, so I don't know if the same problems are on the Wii. Also, if you want symbols you can just get an add on for the RB2 drums.

Also, don't get it for GHTunes. I hate most of the stuff on there anyway. The remakes of songs just sound terrible.
