I just opened up my DS Lite to play Minish Cap for the GBA, when I noticed that the top screen didn't click into place when I pushed it back. In fact, the top screen was unable to stay in one stationary position. It either flopped back or closed on my fingers, but nothing in between. While trying to figure out why the hinges were so loose, I noticed a horizontal crack about three quarters of a centimeter wide to the immediate left of the top of the light that indicates how much battery power you have left. (not the one that glows orange when you're charging it). I wouldn't mind if it was just a cosmetic problem, but now I can't get the top screen into just the right position before I start playing, and the top screen sometimes closes by itself while I'm playing. That's how weak the hinges are. Any recommendations? How much would it cost to repair? I'm pretty handy with taking things apart, could I fix it myself?
My friend had the same problem, only it was on the left side. He used his pocket knife file it down, and then used a silicon (bathroom silicon mind you.) to replace what he filed down. Even though it's squishy, it's still in place.
(If I were you I would just buy a new one, or sending it in for repairs. He studies this kind of stuff for a living, and it's much more complicated than it sounds.)

I'll probably send it in to be repaired. It's worth the money because I'll know that it will be fixed instead of risking it by trying to do it myself. Besides, if it's squishy, I'd probably be constantly poking at it while I'm playing. :P
Same happened to me. Got to the point where it had no hinges at all. Hung there by the cords connecting the two screens.
And it still worked fine! 0_o
That happened to mine too, the bigger right hinge got disconnected, now it it turns on for a fraction of a second then shuts off
The same thing happens with my ds phat.
I would recomend sending it in(unless you can do it by yourself or someone you know can fix it)
Off topic:Yesterday my lamp was too close to my ds and now theres a indent in the top cover.
Alright, here's what ended up happening:
I called up Nintendo and asked how much it would be to repair it. They told me it would be about $75, so my parents and I agreed that we might as well buy a new one. We also bought a new shell for my old DS Lite. One day, my dad and I are going to try and get the parts from my old DS Lite into the new shell. If we're actually able to do it, we'll end up giving that DS to my brother.
