Title: Turkey
Post by: Macawmoses on November 30, 2008, 01:38:02 PM
Video game turkeys. Games and systems that should have taken off, because they have wings, but just couldn't fly, or find there way into the hearts (or stomachs) of many.

http://retro.ign.com/articles/934/934001p1.html

There is IGN's take on video game flops. I agree with many-poor ET, but some, like the Jaguar, I digress on.

So, what video games and systems do you think belong on the list? I would honestly consider the Gamecube, but the fact we all supported it ruins this notion :(

So?

the gamecube wasn't a total flop, it just did horribly compared to the current best selling system of all time the PS2.

I'm surprised the Virtual Boy didn't make it (I think)
I also say the sega saturn

Eh, I still think the GC is a turkey. Game wise, I'm not sure. I'd add SMG to it, too ^_^

Oh, the Jaguar. So mediocre. It's worth it for Tempest 2000, though.

I also would add the 5200, Rise of the Robots, the Neo-Geo Pocket, CD-i, Sega CD, 3DO, and Extreme Paintbrawl.

Virtual boy, atari 5200, cd-i for dare making a zelda game, and superman 64, not a system, but it should go die in a fire!

Have you actually played Superman 64?

A lot of people say it's the worst game ever, but have never played it.

I've played it. It sucks balls, but so do all of the other superhero games.

actually the Neo Geo Pocket wasn't too bad, problem was no one but occasionally SEGA supported it...

Maybe it's just because I love Iron Man with a passion, but the Iron Man game for the 360 was decent.

It wasn't bad, it was just a turkey. Same with the Dreamcast. Although Sega had basically built themselves a grave over the previous decade, it was the failure of the Dreamcast that kicked them into it.

actually, the Saturn was the biggest problem. lot's of ppl say that if the Saturn had done even half decently the Dreamcast would've done a lot better.

And sega made attachments to the system so you already had to have it and buy the attachments which could've almost been a complete other system, i keep saying system because i forget which one it was, i think dreamcast or genesis

The SEGA CD and 32X for the Genesis. Both pretty worthless outside of Sonic CD and Knuckles Chaotix

The Saturn didn't sell well because no retailers would put as much aside for the Saturn as they did the Genesis, because they were sick of putting out new systems on shelves, not having them sell, and having to mark them down to get rid of them.

Also, SEGA released it without telling anyone. It was a surprise announcment at that year's E3 at their keynote. They led off saying that just that day the Saturn went on retail at stores, and no one knew X_X;;

That was mainly why it failed, a poor launch.

Oh, and did I mention that Sega of Japan gave the order to fire the President of Sega of America in September 1999? They had no idea when the Dreamcast would launch in America, and they just happened to choose the worst possible month.

The lack of communication could be blamed for Sega's demise, similar problems happened many times over the previous decade.
