Title: Gamecube & Wii Roms
Post by: DIMENTIO1 on December 04, 2008, 11:50:46 AM
not sure if its old news to you, but i just found out. well i knew but i never knew you could run em on Windows. i just downloaded dolphin 1.349 and it works great on my laptop. i tested it out with Harvest moon - magical Melody (coz it was the smallest sized rom) and i get  29-35 FPS. not bad. anyone tried the wii roms on their computer yet?

EDIT: Here's the link to the Emulator Website:

35 FPS = not so good.

That's out of the normal 60 fps, right? Or am I missing something?

Not all games run at 60. It would depend on the game.

Try Mario Kart Double Dash or Paper Mario, and see if its different.

LAso, illegal discussion is illegal.

Yeah, but you wouldn't play Melee at 35 fps, or MK:DD.

Downloading the game and burning it to a DVD-R works as well for wii games, online is stable in most too.

I meant that some games are designed to run at certain framerates.. like Super Mario Sunshine is designed to run at 30, whereas the ones I mentioned before are supposed to run 60. Melee would be 60 as well. But certain games drop frames in certain places.. or slow down.

not having the GCN controller kills the experience. Not sure why any of you would want GCN roms.

I was downloading some, and then realized this and cancelled all my downloads. I'll just spend the $15 or $20 per game and get them for real. I'm sure I can get them dirt cheap at Gamestop.

darn... i d/loaded Shadow The Hegdehog (gamecube game) and the thing runs with some serious gameplay lag. (the intro, menu, and the first 3 minutes of the game runs 50 FPS, then after that, it drops to 30, then 16 after i beat the first level, when it gets to the cut-scene (the G.U.N. control room). i dont even go past the cut-scene anyways. maybe if i try tho, it might go up to 50 again...

just anything from the sonic storyline is good enough for me (except the rly old poop like sega genesis and GBA). sides, i never played the game before today. i'll admit, its a lil cheesy but i'll see where it goes

This is emulated on Dolphin SVN Build 1.556
I get 45-60 FPS. On average, during Gameplay, i'd say about 48 FPS. On menus, i get the full 60 FPS. Isnt it pwnsome? the best part is, i used the wiimote thru GlovePIE (the VisualBoyAdvance Script, and i edited the controls to be used as a GCN controller). Oh, and this method also works on Gamecube roms too, so HA!

How's that working out for you?

Note: Why did you have to circle the only window on your desktop?  If you had 6 windows open, we could probably find out.
Note2: Crop ONLY the window so you desk doesn't take the screen.

honestly, i know how to crop, but i was too lazy :P and idk why i circled it :O  also, the wiimote works really well when using it for playing GC games and some wii games that are GCN controller compatible like sonic riders, SSBB , sonic unleashed, MK wii.

after i beat the first part (the pic with normal sonic), the game loads, and it freezes, but i can hear choppy audio still. maybe if i wait for the audio to end, it'll work. theres a lot of variables when it comes to the framerate. it goes max 60 FPS on menu, but in gameplay, i get 27-50+

I heard about this.
Emulators for older systems is fine, because it's harder to find games for them. But playing Wii games is a little too far. You can just go to any store that buys games and get one.

Wow, remembering how long it took for the GCN to get emulated, it's amazing how fast the Wii has gotten emulated. Great progress, some free-time programmers are as good as Nintendo's. Can you use a keyboard/mouse?

I personally would download only Wii roms either when the game is really bad and I want to see how bad it is or it's an overhyped piece of crap that I don't think deserves my money.

I probably couldn't run it on this laptop anyway....

yeah, you can use the keyboard/mouse. at first it was awesome, now, i just use the wiimote (horizontally) to make the gaming experience more..... gamecube-ish/wii-ish.

That's out of the normal 60 fps, right? Or am I missing something?

It varies. There is a certain point though where the human eye cannot discern a slower frame rate from the higher one.

first of all, i said 35 @ first because i didnt have dual core enabled (now i get the full 50/60 with it enabled). but yeah, it varies. i sure wish they could stabilize it perfectly though.

On a similar note, one certain program I use (http://lightscreen.sourceforge.net/) automatically saves screenshots to a file with customizeable hotkeys.
