Title: Board Suggestion Thread
Post by: Macawmoses on December 13, 2008, 02:56:46 PM
Hey guys,

As you undoubtedly know, Super Smash Bros. has died here on NSF. It's hard to believe, but after all this time, it has.

So, we need to change things up a bit. We need to tweak the rules, and we need to breathe life into this board again. I'll take any suggestion, and it'll be discussed with Star and Cogs. So, fire away.

We should've hosted more tournaments and possibly remade the ladder back when we had all those new members from the merges.

We could try to make more tourneys, but it doesn't look like very many of those newer members stuck around.

Eh, if we do tourneys, I can easily import members. Keep in mind I'm an admin on OLF, and I'm well respected elsewhere. We scratch their backs, they scratch ours.

Interforum events could be fun.

I have connections in some other sites, somebody make a tourney and I'll advertise it.

i don't know if much can be done besides tourneys.
Brawl has gone down in popularity. Its lasted nowhere near as long as melee did.

lol... does Dawei even come here anymore?

Ah well, a big crew with OLF would be cool.  NS2 is too good for NSF, so it's a good thing that never happened XD

As for members, I could get some of my clan mates here for tournaments

Yes he does.

Well, if that's the case. My suggestion is that start up a clan of NSFCD members, if this suggestion is worth talking or discussing among the rest of you, I will go into more detail.

I think we tried that before (we meaning all of them good players), I don't remember anything beyond trying to get it organized and started.

It seems like everything we've tried before failed eventually, it seems like we need something new or a whole lot more support.

Well, all of what you said, was true... but guess what? That was the past this is the present. There are going to be a lot of kinks at the start, but once you get everything set up it gets easier. Lets look at what as failed, and make it better.

Hmm, it's a little overused, but what about a tourney with a WiiWare game as a price?

Or a VC one?

Or the 2?

Lets stick with just the tourneys as a suggestion for now. I mean once the details about tourneys are done... then the ideas of prizes should come into play.

I'll tell you right now Special Ranks are probably a no go. We removed a bunch, and the fact TA is still around, on top of Dermatologist, tells you how much I had to whine for them to exist. Anyways, we could do things like "Break The Targets (Stage 2) With Fox in the fastest time", or something.

I'm just saying there will be things that will need a fixing.

I agree to the point where SSBB isn't as popular as SSBM was/Is, and that the fad
died a good bit ago...

When the fad was dieing, This board was dieing with it but at a faster rate simply because we wasn't that active here to begin with (But thats my Opinion.)

As it's been stated, competing with other forums is the only way to boost the activity here, and possibly help advertise ourselves on the other forums...
NS2, I'm really skeptical they want anything to do with us........going by that board, I can only imagine how they may feel about Us. Other forums I'm sure don't have any resentment for what ever reason.

OLF, that sounds like a good start.

Considering NS2's KoH, and former Smash Knight, Deoxic is here, I don't think there is any resentment or anything of the sort.

NS2 Brawl Board is like a whole separate forum all itself, and I am doubtful that they have any resentment towards us.

I think there should be more than just tournaments.  Why not make stadium mode records or something.  Like what apollo did before brawl came out.  I know they aren't as good compared to melee but there are also the event matches too.  just a thought.

Um we can do tourneys(Like official fourum tourneys. Not the ones that end up dying out((all of them)))

And we can have users whho have youtube accounts(like me),advertise them and crap.

We can also try to make a revised super smash bros brawl. That we chooose how brawl would have been made and we can desgin the box art and the game manual and stuff...

Having a board for one game in the first place came with an expiration date.

We tried inter forum tourneys before and they didn't work... but I'm all for trying again.

Really... we need to either drop the board altogether or import more members.
Its still the most active game specific board to the best of my knowledge... but that's not enough.

Get an active ladder, ask OLF to participate in said ladder... or look for a forum merge.  ::)

NS2 has no resentment against us, and barely any knowledge.  Most people that know both started here.

I vote OLF though, NS2 is out of our league =/

And the matter of OLF could work out because, as mentioned, NS2 is out of our league.

Hopefully something happens before this board dies out. =\

Good idea.
We could devote a thread to specific character testing... and every week get a new character to test.

Guys... NS2 is only out of our league because of its number of members.
Not everyone there is that good. :|

I think we should have an "Event Match of the Week" thread.  Suggestions are sent in each week for a user-created event match (submission form includes title, story/summary, characters used, colors, type of match, items, stage, CPU and handicap levels, etc.), then on Sunday whoever's in charge of the thread posts the selected event match for others to attempt.  Top scores, times, etc. are sent in and recorded in the appropriate section of the thread.  MAYBE we could eventually have a prize for each week's winner.  Maybe there could even be Event Matches requiring multiple players, thereby allowing co-op via Wi-Fi.  I think it would definitely liven things up around here, rather than just the same old tourney after tourney.
