Title: I need help with choosing a Wii Modchip. (RESOLVED)
Post by: DIMENTIO1 on December 18, 2008, 12:07:42 PM
i checked some compatibility lists, and i couldnt be more confused. this is also my first time doing something of this level (besides that MB incident). here's the first 6 Digits to my Wii's Serial #:

LU5126

if you know about this kinda stuff, please tell me which modchips will work. i know that the Wiikey works, but i think it needs a special DVD drive for the DVDs it reads. are there any modchips that are compatible with my wii that dont DVDs burned in a special desktop DVD drive? (in otherwords, i need a modchip that works and reads DVDs (full and mini-sized) burned in your average DVD/RW drive)

EDIT: i just got off live chat @ consolesource.com, they said that the WiiKey V2 works on all Wiis, including mine, and that it plays both PAL and NTSC roms. plus it works with any firmware but they said you shouldnt update after you install it, which i wont. (update i mean)

You don't need a modchip or a special drive to read DVDs on the Wii.

no, i mean i wanna get a modchip to play GC/Wii roms FROM dvds, but i need a modchip that can use standard DVD-R's burned from your everyday Supermulti DVD drive on your Desktop/Laptop.

You can't just burn the .iso's to CDs and play them?  Damn :(  I was going to burn my sister a copy of Animal Crossing so we can play together.

i took a look @ http://www.consolesource.com/ecomm/catalog/Official-WiiKey-Mod-Chip-With-Hologram-p-2643.html (http://www.consolesource.com/ecomm/catalog/Official-WiiKey-Mod-Chip-With-Hologram-p-2643.html) This, but the tutorial on making backups says you need a special DVD drive. (desktop)

Looking at that SD WiiKey, it's sad how Nintendo discourages homebrew.  I'd assume these people already know what they're getting themselves into when modding their system.  It's not like the casual gamers using Action Replay and whining that the warranty is void after use.  If they didn't make it so difficult to mod, there would be no problem (but then I'd assume bad things- like higher quality Wii knockoffs and more game piracy- could potentially stem).
