Title: Why do you celebrate the holidays?
Post by: Macawmoses on December 22, 2008, 05:18:40 PM
I'm curious. I saw an atheist post saying they'd celebrate to get their kids presents, I know of Jewish people that celebrate primarily because it's the one most active time for Jews, and of course, commercialism.

So, do you do it to fit in? To get gifts? Worship?

To me, I'm not religious to a heavy extent. Christmas is a time of giving gifts, and making people's dreams come true. It's not that I've bent to the commercial aspect, but I do fully believe in gift exchange.

It does give me a chance to go to Church, as it's one of few times my parents will go, and no sense celebrating alone. So Christmas is also a time for worship, just not primarily.

How about you?

I'm in it for the presents 8)

I'm not going to be a vagina cleaning device and say it is a time of "giving and happiness" and blah blah blah... I hate when my mom tries to drag me to the candlelight ceremony at church, it is so boring D:  But I do get friends and stuff presents, i'm not a total dick during Christmas :3

I celebrate Christmas for memories, mostly. Figure it out from there.

I don't really celebrate at all... too overcommercialized and I refuse to take part in such nonsense.
I'll be around my family if they want to do stuff, but I don't take part in anything.

For me, it's a time to be with family, help others, and give gifts.

My family celebrates it and I was brought up Catholic so I suppose that's why.  It's also nice and festive, even if I'm now agnostic bordering on atheist.

I celebrate christmas (and festivus :P) for every festive reason except religious purposes. Thats not saying that I just hoard my presents though. I am a giver, especially during the holidays. :)

I celebrate Christmas because it's a time of family/giving.
Just being in the midst of your loved ones makes it worthwhile.

Also, 2 weeks off from school.

I just celebrate Christmas to be with family, and give presents.
And to get presents. :)

Presents, and I get to see family members who I haven't seen in months.

Worship and Presents.
But mostly worship.

To give/get gifts, be with family.

I like the holidays because I get stuff.

That's it.

Free presents, it gets the extended family together (sometimes it's the only time of the year that everyone gets under one roof).

It's the food, man.

Presents are OK, but Christmas is NOTHING without a good pig-out! ^_^

Well, presents are a real highlight of this holiday. So I get really excited, not only to get them, but to give them out. Although I don't have a lot of money so I can't get that many at high prices. Makes me sad all the time.

Also, since I'm a Catholic, I go to church on this day. I am one of those people who don't like it because its so boring, but I get a good feeling out of it after it's all said and done. I'm probably a bad Catholic, but hey, I have friends who are worse.

Why do I celebrate the holidays? To spend time and have fun with the family and family, and to remember that it is Jesus'(s) birthday.

I enjoy having a day where my family doesn't annoy the poop out of me, and I like giving gifts to friends and family.  I'm not completely heartless.

95% is still a big percent though. D:

I like seeing my family, talking, reminiscing, and eating good food. I could care less about presents or spending hours in church watching 6 year-olds sing terribly (regardless of how cute they are).
