Title: Electronic Gaming Monthly:1989-2009
Post by: Tupin on January 06, 2009, 07:07:54 PM
It had a good run, but after twenty years of shifts in staff and design, EGM's final issue is their January 2009 one. 1UP.com is also being sold.

Really, this magazine USED to be good, then they stopped caring. Plus, no one bought it because they didn't have anything in them. Seriously, their last few issues were more like magazine sized pamphlets.

At least we still have GamePro and *ugh* GameInformer.

Your thoughts on this?

Yeah, I've seen a few diehard EGM fans that had subscriptions up to 2015...  :D

Nice ten-year anniversary, hehe.

I used to subscribe.

I liked their magazine.
Twenty year anniversary.

I worded that weird.

I got the magazine for ten years.

They were a really good magazine a long time ago. I think I still have a few of them left.

I started getting mine around issue 147. Gamecube birth era. When our PC-based magazine died and we somehow got an EGM, and I was like YAY.

I've been getting it for about 2ish years, for free. Magazine sucks ass. But it's free, so oh well. Doesn't bother me.

Too bad Game Informer can't die along with it.
better yet, there is no point to gaming magazines because they don't report anything anymore. we all know this stuff on the internet the month before the issue comes out.

Not everyone. I don't spend much time online and I get almost all my game info from magazines, and of course forums. I'll miss getting all the stories and stuff like I used to.

Never read an issue before, to be honest.

Looks like a bunch of other 1-Up stuff is going down too, I guess.

Took long enough. The only issue I ever read was their 150th issue where they listed the 150 best games ever or whatever. Of course, that was back when the GCN/Xbox/PS2 was just coming out.

EGM was once a good mag...ages ago when Shoe was at the helm. It's sucked for a while, though. Although like others are saying, I would have preferred seeing Game Informer burn instead.

That sucks, I kinda knew it was going down once "Shoe" Hsu left, but I never expected this.

Is the January issue the one with the Wolverine: Origins preview?

But yeah, it's about time it died. It was long past due.

Sucks for Nin though, as he probably won't get a refund.

First their more family-friendly spinoff, GameNow (which I actually enjoyed.. Years ago), then them itself huh?

And what's wrong with GameInformer?  I don't have any problems with them.

They are run by Gamestop and really don't like Nintendo.

They hate everyone not named "Halo" and "Grand Theft Auto"
Every open world game is a "GTA clone" and subsequently totalled less. Every FPS is compared to Halo and deemed "not as good" (Even though CoD4 AND 5 are VASTLY superior to Halo in every way), and frankly they can't report for poop.

One of the major British magazines.

Gamepro, and unfortunately, GameInformer will probably last for a few more years.
