Title: NETGEAR forums, don't go there.
Post by: L10 on January 13, 2009, 07:49:38 PM
Okay, trying to get wireless to work in Win7 I posted a topic on the NETGEAR forums, seems like a place to start. Looking to see if there was a solution before posting, I noticed that there is a moderator that goes to each of these posts and goes

"BETA BETA BETA, Just wait for it to be released and get the drivers for it when they're made."

But I knew this was a Windows thing not a drivers thing, so in my post I said that I didn't want anyone telling me this "Windows 7 is only in Beta BS"

Someone posts saying that they would also want to know how to get past the Windows security thing.

And guess what this gosh darn moderator does. He starts telling me that it's in beta. And he was talking as if I was a moron, which instantly mad me the hell off, especially because I wasn't going to play dumb since I really wanted to get this online and help anyone else that needed it help.

So after I found the solution to the problem, I posted it, and then quoted the mod, telling him to shut up when I told him not to give me the beta BS. And then I told him that NETGEAR should get with the program and get drivers out for Win7 like Nvidia already did.(I was aware of some sort of punishment from this guy, he reminded me a lot of Riosan)

So I go to see if my solution helped anyone, and I find a PM, and they made it so I wasn't able to view the thread.

The PM:

I told you not to give me that BS, now shut up.

Problem solved.

I spent all of my night searching Google for answers. I eventually came across that by pressing F8 right before Windows starts you get a menu, similar to what you get with any other Windows. But this has an option to "Disable Driver Signature Enforcement". Doing this defiantly worked(Otherwise I wouldn't be saying this =p).

There is a downside to that fix though. You would have to go into that menu every time Windows booted. But no worries! Shortly after I found the solution to that! There is a program called "ReadyDriver Plus 1.1" that will change the boot settings so it automatically selects that option for you!

I have yet to test this ReadyDriver Plus 1.1 though. So, I can't be 100% sure it works.

FYI Nvidia is already starting to support Win7. Next time I tell you not to give me "It beta, stupid hurr hurr" don't.

All the best,

So, any bad experiences with costumer service? Share your stories.

(Also, I'm probably going to complain to NETGEAR about the moderator, and they also probably lost a costumer to their products because I have run into problem after problem with my wireless card.)

Seems like he has been told to say something when he knows something else.

Get in touch with the adminstration.  On forums such as those, it's not really okay to just tell people to just up and move on, because it's there for tech support, not just for fun.  Whether or not anything would be done about it is another question, but a squeaky wheel gets oiled.

Can't totally get mad at netgears staff, for a multiple reasons.  One, its Microsoft.  They're pricks!  They wont help support devices with their beta!  They only release their beta, so users use it, tell them whats wrong, and then they can release it with less glitches/bugs then vista.  Two, netgear moderators/forum staff may not be real employees.  They may be some dude that knew someone or had some basic knowledge and got moderator status.  He may not know that much, and to avoid making himself look stupid, he told you that.  He may have even been told by higher-ups to tell you that, if asked the question of Windows 7.  Three, lesson be learned, don't go to a manufacturer's web forum.  They suck and aren't helpful.  Go to a tech forum, thats where you'll see real help.

Uh, that's the whole point of a beta?

Like Friendlyhostile said, that's the purpose of a beta, and really if you look at the Windows 7 page it's not like they don't warn you that you should only do it if you're knowledgeable about computers in the first place.

I'm happy with Netgear for the most-part.
That's my router, and its sexy.

It had better be for $150

At least you got it fixed...
