Title: Dead musicians... with new albums.
Post by: The Riddler on January 22, 2009, 06:59:56 AM
Today's topic of interest: New Albums from Dead Musicians.

Not much to say about it... how do you feel when a new album comes out from a dead musician?

What makes me think about this is an ad on myspace for Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes' new album.

Do you think they're ok as tributes? Is it ok to remix their music and title it new?
Or is it just a way to cash in on the dead?

Discuss.

Some of these might be good examples:

I think that if it's unreleased material that they made before their deaths, then it's fine to release it in their memory, like what they're doing for Pimp C.

But really, Tupac's been dead for years and their still making albums for him? Not okay.

John Lennon's "Milk and Honey" was a pretty good album, I say good instead of great only because Yoko Ono was apart of the album, and her voice is like nails on a chalkboard. I believe the album came out about four years after his death, not sure but I'll have to check.

I know they released an album after Mitch Hedberg died, but it was unreleased material. It's okay as long as they aren't just whoring the artist's music out for profit.

If they do stuff like this:
Lennon Legend: The Very Best of John Lennon

It's ok, as long as they don't try to pass a tribute band's album as from the real deal.
