So, the list of cheapest video game weapons - including helicopters, hammers, and guns. Golden guns.
What are your thoughts on the list, firstly?
To me, it sums it up quite nicely. I fully agree with the Blue Shell, and scream every time one gets me ;-; Outside of that, there is the Fire Ball in SMB...never thought of it as cheap until now.
Next, what are your thoughts on "cheap" weapons?
For me, they can add a lot of depth. The mayhem that was the Golden Gun in Goldeneye was hilarious...as long as you weren't on the receiving end. Mario Kart's infamous Blue Shell allows everyone a shot at winning (yay casuals), and the Hammer of Dawn is much like the Sword of Damocles.
In general, cheap weapons annoy me, but they have their place. Often times, amusement. Other times, wanting to die.
MP40 in WaW is so annoying I refuse to use it.
My PPSH is just fine thank you.
Helicopters can be cheap... however artillery strikes in WaW are much cheaper. At least you can run from air strikes... the movement handicap is ridiculous.
But yeah, the list was pretty good.
Only thing I would add is WAVEDASHING. =B
Meh, it's ok. There are much cheaper weapons than a mini-nuke. Such as the MIRV =)
I read that already. It's a pretty good list, actually.

Blue Shell is the most universially hated and cheapest weapon ever...
IT NEEDS TO BE ELIMINATED! Nintendo killed Snaking, so they should be fair and remove the blue shell!
Or at least give us the option to turn it off X_X:;

The hell is the point of Mario Kart with no items?
meh, the Sandman should replace the pistol, but the list was made a while ago.

Why? The blue shell has been around in practically, if not all the games...
In fact, in the N64 version, I think(?), they had one that knocked everyone out.
I would say, just nerf its power down a little bit, so you don't get knocked into 12th place and make it more dodgable.

No, just the blue shell. It's cheap, it punishes good players for being, well, GOOD, it causes people to lose races they SHOULD win, and it's pretty much unavoidable in all instances of actually being first. It's an unfair, unbalanced, and cheap item. Everything else is fine though, I got no problems with the rest of the stuff...
I pretty much agree with that list.
But like HTA said, the Artillery Strike is pretty cheap, too. You can't even get away from it without your vision becoming blurred and your movement too slow to even get out.
As for the Blue Shell, just take off the wings so it's like how it was in MK64. At least that way everybody gets hit.

Jesus Christ, not you too.
The Sandman is COMPLETELY FINE AS IT IS.

no.
but first, the blue shell.
Yes, a weapon is needed to cut down first place, but at the same time, it is overpowering. Make it into a red shell that cannot miss. Hell, make it two red shells.
The sandman is overpowered because it lets the scout get away with tactics that aren't flanking and hit&run. The Heavy, a traditional scout counter, used to be able to take on all head-on scouts. Now any sensible scout with the sandman can take out an overhealed heavy incredibly easily (using the scattergun). A revved up heavy is an easy target, and once hit, the heavy is DONE. there is no chance at survival, unless there is another teammate by him (not the medic, he can't do anything against a scout), because he has to spin up his minigun again, and by the time he's done that, he's dead at least once, probably twice over.
The Soldier, a previous scout counter, even if flanked, is now destroyed by the Sandman, due to the huge stun from close range. He dies in two shots, to even the FAN scouts (something a heavy only does after being unstunned).
The Engineer doesn't even remain a hard counter to the scout, as the scout can just run away from him.
No single class can now take down a scout in 1 on 1 combat, save another scout. It's the Sniper situation all over again. Let's see the common counters for the other classes:
1. Soldier:
-Demoman. Better weaponry, mobility, clip size.
-Debateably Heavy. Takes 4 shots to kill, by this time the Soldier is dead.
-Scout. Sandman twoshotted.
2. Pyro:
-Demoman. Should be able to kill before the pyro gets in range.
-Soldier. Juggledeath.
-Heavy. Pyro has to be close, the Heavy tears apart anything close.
-Engineer. No smart engineer will build within flame flank range.
-Scout. Flanked, but this was the same before the update, so it's irrelevant.
3. Demoman:
-Scout. Two shotted from behind, but this was the case before the update.
4. Heavy:
-Everything, save Pyros and Medics, debateably Soldiers.. Scouts sandman & 3shot (heavy is helpless unless he has the shotgun out and gets a crit), Demoman takes 4 good shots, Soldier shoots 4 rockets (depending on the range, the heavy is done), a camping engineer will heave enough metal to outlast him.
5. Engineer:
-Demomen - 3 stickies = kaboom. Not much an engineer can do but chase the demoman.
-Soldier - Debateable. A camping engineer will usually have enough metal to outlast the soldier, but if the engineer isn't close enough, his sentry is done.
-Note that this is the only class without Scout as a counter, because his weaponry is meant to kill scouts, much like the spies' weaponry is meant to kill engineers. Neither the scout nor the engineer now counter each other, as a scout can completely avoid an engineer if he so chooses. However, the scout with a teammate can now kill a sentry most of the time, providing his teammate has the necessary ordnance.
6. Medics, Spies, Snipers: Countered by everything, counter everything in their own ways.
7. Ubers:
-Sentries - massive knockback. Manageable, but even 2 sentries can make an area unapproachable with an uber.
-Stickies - easy to separate the medic and his patient, a good defence.
-Rockets - although to less of an extent, the same idea as stickies.
-Airblast - same idea as stickies to a lesser extent. Generally impedes progress massively.
-Sandman - kills 1/5th of an uber, and if the scout gets his ball back, can continue to do so, wasting the most powerful weapon in the game.
-BONK - kills half of an uber with correct placement, with the scout dying soon afterward.
A scout can run in, sandman, and destroy his previous counters. Loss of the double jump means nothing when your enemy isn't shooting at you. He can block ubers, sentries with BONK, and now has a people mover, the FAN, the likes of which really only lie in the slower, more risky classes, the soldier and the demoman (the airblast is a people mover, but the pyro usually dies before he gets the chance to).
How is that not overpowered?
Rocket Launcher in Halo 2
Spartan Laser in Halo 3 (Seriously. "Where's the laser noob? I want revenge." *ZAP* "WTF!?!?!?! HOW DOES HE STILL HAVE AMMO?"
Spiked shell in Mario Kart is very cheap. It's like the worst.
Laser Desginator in Battlefield: Bad Company. It has stalled me SOOOOO many times when in a vehicle, and if they successfully target me, they have to be complete idiots to miss.
Artillery in Battlefield: Bad Company. Similar to laser designator. Except a little more sudden. And waaaaay more unexpected.

Most of the time when you are first in Mario Kart, it's because you got good items. I don't really see it as punishing good players as much as rewarding bad players, if that makes sense.

The driving still takes some skill...despite the near-removal of snaking (it was the only reason I was fine with the blue shell). Yes, getting good items helps, but knowing the course, and being a good driver usually leads to being in the lead longer. But the blue shell blows skill right out the window...it's just a plain unfair item. At least give the ability to dodge every now and then!

The Spartan Laser was my favorite thing back when I played halo 3. I never could get enough of firing that bad ass thing.
I'm reminded of the nuke in Turok Evolution. It intercourse ing killed almost everything on an entire map.
Then again, there's a lot of cheap-ass weapons in the Turok games. Interestingly, the entire series sucks.

It was made by Acclaim, what do you expect?
Blue Shells have never been that bad to me, so...
But I have to ask, where's the RYNO from Ratchet and Clank? Or the Needle Cannon from Jak 3?
Can't read it from school, but Mag Charger from Time Splitters: Future Perfect needs/should be in there.
The god darn gun is like a sniper and can shoot through walls. Only in multi player does it do that.
Ah, nothing says "Screw you, this is my race dangit!" like a Blue Shell, lap 3, halfway to the finish line. After that, follow up with a red shell, a point blank green shell, being rammed off the edge by the racer with an active star, quite possibly a Bullet Bill if you're unlucky enough, and finally, a Lightning bolt. By that time, you've left to make a sandwich.
Yeah, cheapest weapon ever.

That has actually happened to me before, and I came back to win. :O
It was a long course though. I forgot which one.
