Title: Dragonite or Salamence?
Post by: Neerb on March 09, 2009, 02:08:36 PM
My team currently consists of the following:  Raichu, Sceptile, Empoleon, Typhlosion, Sandslash.  What should the last be:  Dragonite or Salamence?

*Edit:  Of less priority, should I use: Surfing Raichu or a Zapdos?

If you just want someone to choose for you, then Dragonite and Raichu.

Now if you want explanation and competitive reasoning about it, I'd wait for someone else to reply.

Well there must be SOME explanation.  Do you just think they're cooler?

I asked the very same question some time ago and most people said Dragonite

Which one's faster?  Cause I've used Dragonite before and he's really strong, but he was so freakin slow that he almost always died before he could even move.

Salamence is faster by 20 Base Stat, (44 points with max EVs in speed with boosting nature).
The only real advantage of using Dragonite is because of its access to Light Screen and Super Power, as well as 20 more base Special Defense.  The regular defense boost is negated by Salamence's Intimidate, which lowers an enemy's attack one stage.

For attack, Salamence has one more base Attack, and 10 more base Special Attack.
So for sweeping Salamence is superior, and by the looks of your team that's probably what you want.

Dragonite. It's higher Defense will help. Besides, Salemence is a Sweeper, which you have enough of.

Would Lucario be better than Salamence?

That's what I was thinking.  It would be even better if I replace Raichu with Zapdos.

If you really want a good competitive team, get rid of Sceptile and Sandslash :P

Really?  I know Sandslash isn't exactly competitive material, but I thought Sceptile was good?
Anyway, I'm not really planning a competitive team, I was just wondering if my normal team could use some slight changes.  Most of these guys are on my team just cause I think they look cool. :P

Sceptile is good in UU I guess.  In standard play its outclassed.
If its just for fun, really it doesn't matter who you fill it up with lol.

It's really amazing how easy it is to suck all of the fun out of a game with all of this competitive battling and tiering junk.

Which is why I've never took interest in it.  I keep Pokemon as simple as possible.

i always that skeptile was good(sapphire-pearl). but i use cacturne instead. I tried using sandslash (pearl) but i didn't get good results from training him to like 60. Use Salemence. teach him earthquake.
