Title: NIMF vs. MadWorld
Post by: Mario583 on March 11, 2009, 04:25:23 PM

The National Institute on Media and the Family (NIMF) is coming down hard on Nintendo over MadWorld. According to IGN, NIMF president Dr. David Walsh:

"The release of MadWorld for the Wii brings violent videogames to a once family-friendly platform. In the past, the Wii has successfully sold itself as being the gaming console for the entire family and a way to bring family-game nights back into people's living rooms. Unfortunately, Nintendo opened its doors to the violent videogame genre. The National Institute on Media and the Family hopes that Nintendo does not lose sight of its initial audience and continues to offer quality, family-friendly games."
The comments are idiotic on several levels. If anything, NIMF should spew its silly venom at SEGA for publishing the game. SEGA is the company that developed and published the title.

It can be argued that Nintendo is "at fault" for owning and controlling the Wii platform and allowing MadWorld to be made for it. That doesn't work for me, either. To me, it's the same at being angry at Loews or Regal Cinemas for allowing its theaters to play violent or sexually-explicit movies. The platform is meant for a variety of consumers, not just those that play E-rated games.

Speaking of which, this is an M-Rated game. It's not meant to be "family friendly." The ratings system is there for a reason.

Every video game system ever released is family friendly, as long as you know which games to pick. Nintendo doesn't monitor content from third parties, as long as it's not rated AO, it can be on their system.

These people need to find out who they go against, the big SEGA on the front of the box should be good enough.

I wonder if they know that Madworld isn't the first M rated violent game on the Wii.

I think these morons must have missed ManHunt and No More Heroes.

The Wii doesn't lose it's family friendly sheen because of one game. The simple fact is that the bulk of titles are aimed at everyone - that doesn't mean M games don't have their place.

As for "losing sight of its initial audience", apparently they don't know the first group of gamers (initial) were the hardcore people that will pick up MW.

Pretty dumb, considering the amount of family-friendly games outnumbers games like MadWorld by a large margin.

...MILF is obviously just another self-righteous and self-formulated group that wants publicity by using Nintendo...
...ESRB was made for them, they should use it rather than whining...

...It's so sad that they never knew about NMH or RE or Manhunt 2...
...But again, timing was great on their behalf; since the Wii is popular, more parents will look up crap like this and they get more publicity...
...But now MadWorld gets more publicity too...:>...

...Also, "quality, family-friendly games"?...
...Ftl...

...You might need to do some reading as well...

...MW was developed by Platinum Games and later SEGA became the official publisher to help...

I know that Platinum games developed it and SEGA published.

I hate how everyone's pegging the Wii as "family friendly". Sure, it has a lot of kiddy games, but...No More Heroes, MadWorld, RE4: Wii...>_>

I'd say this (http://www.examiner.com/x-544-Games-Examiner~y2009m3d12-MadWorld-finally-makes-the-Wii-family-friendly) article sums up the Wii as being "family friendly" pretty well. I suggest you all read.
