Title: New Zelda Game - For DS
Post by: Doodle on March 25, 2009, 12:57:37 PM
Hopefully you liked Phantom Hourglass. Because the next Zelda is another DS title.
The Spirit Tracks.

Video (http://www.zelda.com/universe/game/spirittracks/index.jsp)

The train looks like it could be fun. That boss battle at the end looks pretty awesome, too.
I liked Phantom Hourglass, so I'll probably be getting this.

What do you think about this?

I didn't care much for Phantom Hourglass, hopefully this is better, looks good

First Impression: A Spin-off? Oh God...

It looks...interesting. I have my doubts now, but I'm pleased to know that there will be a Zelda Title on its way.

Trailer was very unimpressive...TO ME

First off, the train looks like another King of Red Lions. It kinda "looks fun", but I know it'll be shallow and annoying come full game time.
Also, looks like the Gale Boomerang and Dominion Rod return...joy *I really didn't care for either*.
All and all it's not that impressive to me, especially since I found PH to be a big pile of "meh-ness". This just looks and smells like a cash-in, so I'll probably pass unless it turns out to be the best thing since MM.
BTW Link looks REALLY stupid in that conductors uniform.

First impression is me having some doubts about it, but i'm sure it will be good. I loved Phantom Hourglass so that's making me think that once i play the game, i'll love it too. The outfit Link has on the train though... it's just, no..

I would like to see some info on the plot though, since i am quite curious as to why, and how link now has a train.  Overall it looks really interesting, and probably when playing it a lot of fun.

First impression is the thought of fighting Ganondorf. Like, hitting him with a train. But then he'd survive because he's Ganondorf. T

What was with Zelda, though? Hmm. Link helps the new kingdom by becoming a delivery boy? Or is this not a "WW Link" game?

same graphical design, as well as Zelda is wearing the same outfit as she did in WW, so I assume this is continuing the WW story (why does Nintendo love this arc so darn much?)

This will be the third (assuming it's still WW universe), which is more than the original story, OoT-verse, and any handheld series so far...

I believe that this takes place in the "New Land" that Link and Tetra find, assuming this takes place after Phantom Hourglass.

It resembles the Gust Jar more than the Gale Boomerang, actually.

Then pass you will, because no Zelda game will ever surpass Majora's Mask.

Unless you count Minish as part of FS or something. Still, that'd be two Links.

I don't really mind, because I like the WW-arc. I also thought PH was decent, but could have been better. Hopefully this game will successfully improve PH's flaws and stuff.

It's like Nintendo is taunting us, using the best version of Link that had one of the best Zeldas ever and putting him in all these spin-offs. Windwaker needs a console prequel, covering the story from Ocarina of Time to Windwaker, which would end with the Gods flooding Hyrule.

That said, the game looks okay. Is it an on-rails shooter or a traditional Zelda game that's like Windwaker but with a train instead of a boat? I think it's a "DSi Only" game, which might be bad.

They should make a steampunk Zelda, it's the next logical step.

^Traditional game, but with trains.

OoT-WW: Ganon got free, Link didn't appear, Hyrule flooded, everyone sad. Not much interesting stuff, unless they throw in a rebellion or something.

I would have liked to see a Wiind Waker(sorry) game, though. I think the WW graphics could be nice on the Wii.

My Analysis

Bad:
-Looks very similar to PH, and while PH was okay, I prefer my Zelda games to be much more than okay (OoT, MM, WW)
-I want Zelda to be closer to Middle Earth, not modern reality, and with first steamboats and now trains, it's getting a bit to hi-tech for my taste
-conductor's uniform looks... odd
-trains don't have nearly as much freedom as boats or horses

Good:
-has promise of epic boss battles, cool items, and all that other stuff PH generally lacked
-we FINALLY have New Hyrule, as in, it's still Toon Link, but now we have good old Zelda on land instead of Tetra on water (the latter of which has gotten really annoying)
-controllable Phantom teammate in battle (PLEEEEASE HAVE CO-OP OPTION!!)

Over All (not based on how many goods and bads I listed):
It's a Zelda game and it looks better than PH.  To me, that's a must buy.  But fanboyism aside, this game really does look like it has potential to be a great, or at the very least, good, game.  Plus, it's the most hardcore, fan-aimed, non-remake Nintendo has made in quite a while.

AT LEAST have DS Local Wireless co-op. I know my brother would want to play this in a co-op mode.

Wind Waker link takes place 100 years or something after OoT's adult link timeline. I think some kind of technology would make sense

Because this irks me, I'm almost positive the game says CENTURIES, not CENTURY when referring to how much time has passed.  I don't see 100 years as viable for all that nonsense to happened between WW and OoT.  The major lack of anyone's knowledge of Hyrule just seems too unlikely for 100 years.

Yep not getting this one.
But I do have to say they should make this the casual Zelda game and have the next one for the Wii be all hardcore like it should be.

My disappointment is...unbelievable. Its like they ported Phantom hourglass sprites and added a few new weapons and a bloody train! Omg! A disgrace! This looks like garbage! I want my home console Zelda. You dont have 2 handheld releases come out in a row! Thats garbage! Bahhh so freakin stupid! Unbelievable! The laziness of nintendo here!!!!!!

Meh. I wasn't exactly thrilled by Phantom Hourglass, but Wind Waker was pretty good. I'll probably end up buying this either way.

Looks like the first item available in a dungeon is something to blow enemies away. Or something. It also looks like we get some sort of method to control an enemy's movement, probably through the use of a new item. I'm thinking that the so-called "Spirit Tracks" are probably gonna be used for that.

lol whenever I think of "Spirit Tracks," I automatically think "Soul Train."

Looks like PH redone, I liked PH and all, but the whole cave thing ruined it (I forgot what it's called, but it's the place where the Hourglass is used).
Also, that's not a gale boomerang, it's some leaf fan.

How is it lazy? The development for a AAA DS title is comparable to that of a AAA Wii title. Besides, that's like saying they ported Pokemon Red over to make Pokemon Gold. Similar titles, yes, but oh so different.

Yeah, I hope they took out the whole "One main dungeon, all other dungeons are just a roundabout way to get further in this one" game mechanic that absolutely destroyed PH for me.

Toon Link needs a console game, the art style is perfect for a casual audience and the game mechanics can keep anyone satisfied. No recent Zelda game has had the "magic" Majora's Mask and especially Windwaker had.

Keep in mind they changed alot of things, sprites, colors, pokemon. Not alot changed in this version. I feel like its just an expansion pack of Phantom Hourglass. And what if something similar to that stupid temple of the ocean king returns? Bah Ill hate it if it happens. Also, link in a train outfit? No no no no NO! I am just saying that Nintendo has never released two handheld games in a row. the oracle games came out at same time. But between Links awakening and oracle games was 2, maybe 3 if the black and white LA version came out before Link to the past.

Just look at Link's Awakening and the Oracle games.
Similar sprites and gameplay. But a different plot, items, dungeons, and side-quests. Like all Zelda games.

Phantom Hourglass was okay, but not great.  This looks like it's going to be very similar.  Many of the same sprites are being used, but that doesn't necessarily make it a bad game.  I'd like to find out how Link ends up with a train.  After all, the world that Link lives in now and the world he explored in PH are basically a bunch of islands, so a train would be pretty much useless.  So if it's going to be part of the WW timeline, it'll be interesting to see where the train is actually used.  I would still much rather have a console zelda game, but this is better than nothing.

the use of a land vehicle, along with the scene of Zelda in a throne room, leads us to assume they've found New Hyrule; they're on a continent now, and we don't have to worry about any more islands.
