Title: Motion Control
Post by: Macawmoses on May 06, 2009, 06:49:51 PM
http://news.cnet.com/8301-13506_3-10232881-17.html

Topic is on why PS3 and 360 don't need motion control. A lot of rumors have popped up as of late - even including screenshots.

Personally, I hope that motion control to the extent Wii has stays off the 360 (I could care less about the PS3). I just don't see the need.

What do you think about motion control?

Meh, I'm indifferent. As long as everything doesn't change to motion controls I'm fine with it.
If anything we should get an arcade controller in the next-Gen. That would be so sick.

I think it's gimmicky to add it to 360 and PS3. They have standard controller designs, why complicate games more with motion addons? The Wii is fine with motion control because that's what it was designed for.

designed being the key word, I've come across so few games that actually use good motion controls it's actually quite humorous. Seriously, until they become truly 1:1, then no game company should even bother.
And since I'm one of the "core" group of gamers, I prefer traditional control schemes. If the casuals can't grasp it, too bad for them X_X;;

Motion controls are terrible gimmicks. Like the person above me already said, most Wii games have awful motion controls......or they just throw them on when they aren't needed (Twilight Princess). Metroid Prime 3 is really the only game I can think of that was actually made better through motion controls.

Unless you can do it 1:1, it's absolutely pointless. I like the idea, but companies that don't want to spend a little extra to make it 1:1 shouldn't even bother.

Depends on the game, but I also hope it stays away for now.

Eh, they don't need to bother with that.
They sell enough as is. 360/PS3 fans don't feel the need for it, otherwise they would have a Wii, too.

I wouldn't care less. I would just turn it off. >:(

Uh, just so you guys know, PS3 already has motion control.  It's called SixAxis.

and how often is it used? Seriously, no one uses it, so I don't even consider the PS3 of even having it.

Because PS3 developers realized motion controls are gimmicky as intercourse  and are entirely useless unless producing shovelware.

I think the next nintendo console should just have a controller. A normal controller.

I don't think motion control belongs in gaming at all.

It's proven to be nothing more than a gimmick.  Even Nintendo seems to agree, as most big Nintendo releases let you use the GCN controller or Classic Controller.

hmm...motion control as it stands is a gimmick, but at the same time, we're making strides to total immersive 3D gaming where we just put on a helmet and we're totally in the game (remember that Nintendo ON mockup from 2005 or so?).  At that point, maybe it won't be a gimmick anymore.  Until then, though, yeah, I'd prefer a controller.

What a silly thing to say right before the release of MotionPlus. v:
With 1:1 control, there'd be no denying that it'd open possibilities far beyond that of a traditional controller.

The MotionPlus was doomed to be a gimmick from the start.  Unless Nintendo gives them out for free, not everyone will have them.  That means that developers will only implement it as a side-option, not into the main game.

At the current price-tag and the game that it's being bundled with, I personally won't be picking it up.  However, I'm not going to bash it any further since we have to see what will become of it.

"A report in Variety last week said Sony might be unveiling a motion-sensing controller at E3 that's more advanced than its Sixaxis (motion-sensing) controller. It will be shaped like a Wii temote"

I spy a typo.

Mario Galaxy? I really enjoyed it despite its linearness.
