Title: Does advertising affect your purchases?
Post by: Cecil_and_Kain on May 16, 2009, 04:09:38 AM
Being surrounded by so many brands with advertisements, I wonder just how much other people are affected by it. Do you completely ignore them or pay slight attention?

I try to ignore ads. I'll acknowledge when an advertisement is really neat, though.

It must otherwise they wouldn't do it. I pay slight attention to the ones I like.

Except for necessary things (like Publix for food, or stuff like that), Ads make me want to buy their product LESS. I hate ads, they're annoying and they serve no purpose other than to influence the idiot masses because they don't know how to think for themselves.

I pay attention, but it never influences me. :u

In general, I pay attention, but it doesn't influence me.

However, a good advertisement is needed if you want me to see a move in theaters.

I usually overlook ads. The only time I pay attention to ads are when they're completely ridiculous or if they're funny. Even then, it doesn't make me want to buy their product(s).

I pay attention to them.
On some types of items it influences me, and some types of things it doesn't.

lolwut?
Also: So ads have an apparent backwards affect on the people of this forum. Oh, and Nayrman, you may want to think twice before you generalize about "the idiot masses." You never know when you may turn out to be one of them.

I usually ignore it.  If it sounds interesting, I'll go ahead and research about it to see if it's all what it's cracked up to be.

Probably but not really. I have to say that a lot of ads turn me off of stuff.

The only ad that ever caught my interest was ShamWow.

I have AdBlock for Internet ads.

The only TV shows I watch are TIVO'd, so I skip the ads.

I don't read many magazines, or newspapers. (Internet does the same thing, and it's easier and free.)

I don't listen to the radio.

I rarely see ads to be honest.

Sometimes... Like that Quizno's commercial with the rats. I never stepped foot inside one after that.

Yes, although there are some ads that are so retarded they're cool, but a lot of them aren't.

There has only been one instance in which advertising has ruined a product for me.

...actually, a whole food chain.

Yes, but usually in adverse effects.
