Title: Blackout
Post by: Macawmoses on May 25, 2009, 12:44:59 AM
Today we had a blackout for close to 6 hours. It was great fun. Phone lines down. Lights down. Refrigerators killed. Internet dead. Absolutely priceless.

My major concern was saving the stuff in our freezer, but it'll stay cold for a day without power. That was good. It was kind of boring without much to do, as it took darn near an hour to find candles. Ended up reading and writing in that time.

When was your last power outage? Was it major? What did you do?

I can't remember the exact details to how the my last power outage happened, but I do know it was caused by a bunch of ignorant construction workers nearby hitting something.

My last major power outage was at a military base in Florida when I evacuated from Hurricane Gustav.
It wasn't bad...but it was a Military base for goodness sakes...
It was major cause the whole base was down (I heard).

During black outs I go to sleep (naps) seeing as that all my entertainment deals with electricity.

Was it major?
If I don't remember, it probably wasn't.

What did you do?
I don't remember, but in power outages, I usually play board/card games with my family, read, write, or sleep.

Either in the day or while I was sleeping, so it wasn't much of a problem.

My whole town's electricity was out for a day and a half back in '03 or '04. During the summer. With no food. That was a fun experience. >_>

I don't remember the cause.

I think it was either December/January when we got an ice storm. Lost power for 2 days.

But during Ike, we didn't have power for a WEEK.

Last Power Outage: Probably during the last big thunderstorm. It only lasted about half an hour though. They don't last long here since we're in a weird spot where severe weather is no where near as severe as other parts of the country.

Last major outage: The infamous ice storm of 2000 (around here anyway). Power was out for most of the state for about 3 days. Ours was out for about fifteen hours or so. Basically we just kind of went outside and messed around for the day. Also, we used a batter powered radio (we keep one just in case of something like this) and listened to the AM/analog radio broadcasts about updates.

A few summers ago.
Two freaking days, no power. No air conditioning, no fans. :|

Last year at school, a generator blew and the power was out for about an hour. Too bad, only 30 more minutes and we would have been sent home :(

Last major power outage... um I remember one being in the summer and winter of last year. It was out for a good 4-8 hours, and I was goin' insane. No computer, TV, videogeames. I ran out of manga to read, and the worst part, I was hungry as hell. You do not want to be around me when I'm hungry to the point that it hurts.

We used to get frequent black outs, but thankfully that slowed down.

Our last major power outage is after the tornado that came on February 24, 2007.  Our power was out for about a whole week!  Luckily, we had a generator, so we could watch TV.  There was no internet, however.

My mom has a storm saying she survived that ice storm.

You guys have some rough ones. I recall a couple of years back we had one that lasted like, two days. That's the worst I've ever been through - and that was in the middle of the summer too, so it wasn't bad at all (Except the 100 F heat D:). I guess I'm lucky.

We usually get them in winter, it seems. When it's -40. :|
