Title: Does the Wii still need a external HDD?
Post by: WiiGuy on June 01, 2009, 02:03:10 PM
Well, after Nintendo released Wii Menu 4.0, and opened up the Wii's storage to aprox 32 1/2 gb of storage....do you think that the Wii should still get one, I know Nintendo will most likely not make one.

But still what are your thoughts?
and if you are one of those who still want one, click below

Yes, it does. The Wii will NEVER have the type of downloadable games the PSN/XBLA can have unless they do so. They're missing out on good popular games like Castle Crashers, the Bionic Commando remake, and others.

It's stupid not to, but then again Nintendo has been pretty much that since the Wii launched.

I'm fine.  I have plenty of room for all my games and any I'll get in the future, and downloadable games on VC are fine (and to my knowledge, there are some great WiiWares too).

The only reason I'd want a hard drive is if it improves processing power (forgive my ignorance on whether or not adding memory is all you need to do that) so we can finally get some good freaking multi-consoles.  Seriously, Prince of Persia, real Final Fantasy games, Sonic Unleashed (screw IGN and their review), and many other PS3/360 games either get cut to pieces in graphics, content, physics, and all around fun when they come to the Wii, or they just don't even come out.  And what's worse is that most of these games that do make it actually have separate developers for the Wii, so you're literally not even getting the same game, much less the same quality!  And people say "Well gameplay is better than graphics," but 1=THE GAMEPLAY SUCKS, 2=THE WII IS CAPABLE OF GRAPHICS HIGHER THAN THAT OF A PS2, and 3=THEY'RE NOT JUST CUTTING GRAPHICS, THEY'RE CUTTING CONTENT!!!!  CALL OF DUTY IS NOT F#<[!%& SHOVELWARE, PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry for the rant, but this is my biggest problem with the Wii since Day 1, when Call of Duty 3 for Wii didn't have multi-player.

Eh, it would be helpful. But it's a little too late for one now. If Nintendo was going to do it, they would have a while ago.
I'm sure the next console will have one, though.

Menu 4.0 doesn't really completely expand the Wii's storage. Many games, Brawl being a perfect example, are stuck on the Wii's internal storage and cannot be moved at all, yet they may be a really large file. And most games do not support accessing the saves directly off of the SD card without the user using the Wii Menu to copy the data. And the loading times and such of using an SD card for such a purpose are anything but quick.

Eh, I think they're trying too hard to prevent gamesaves exploitation. If people are going to cheat, do things like duplicate their Pokemon or whatever, they'll find a way. They don't need to block the ability to manage those saves at all for that reason D=

Yes.  The SD thing doesn't do the trick.

They half assed the recent upgrade, as usual, and we still have to move and poop.

Besides, using SD cards, based on my experience, isn't quick at all, like Bluaki said.

So, I say yes, it could still use one.  The SD card slot was only primarily used for photos and poop, based on how usable it is now.
