Title: Nintendo Press conference impressions
Post by: Nayrman on June 02, 2009, 10:25:14 AM
So what did you think? Obviously a thread to discuss what everyone thought of Nintendo's press conference (since we are primarily a Nintendo site).

Other than Galaxy 2 and Metroid Other M (which looks awesome), I was severely disappointed. Most of the games shown were games we already knew about (Nintendo, saying third parties are using WMP on games we've known about for almost a year is not hyping it).

Golden Sun is finally back though, so I'm happy about that. Although, everything on the DS looks really dumb. Uh... hooray user generated content? Frankly, bleh. I still don't have a reason to buy a DSi Nintendo. Facebook is dumb imho. Sure, a few people will use it, but really I think it's a dumb thing unless you can do status and chats on it. Finally, NINTENDO, Showing fashion games for pre-teen girls is NOT a way to endear yourself to 20+ year old mostly guys! Also, THQ, you do realize interactive novels don't work in America right? Sure, Japan's been doing that for years but they've never done anything here. Besides, Women's Murder Club? I can guarantee not a single person in the audience cared about either of those games. At least Mario and Luigi 3 is finally coming out, but honestly, the fall? You can get it out faster than that Nintendo, quit making us wait.

Galaxy 2 and Metroid Other M look fantastic though. I just hope the difficulty goes up a notch since the last two games (Prime 2 and Galaxy) have been beyond easy. Although I do like Metroid back in the third person. I can't wait for these since it's finally something to do. New Mario Bros. Wii... looks really lackluster if I have to say so myself. I think Nintendo forgot they already did this with Zelda last generation. Sure, it'll still be a good platformer, but I doubt it's "a new way to play" like Nintendo said.

Wii Vitality? WHAT PURPOSE COULD THIS POSSIBLY SERVE!? NO MORE PERIPHERALS PLEASE! Really, what real purpose could this serve? Hooray you can take my pulse Nintendo, this doesn't do anything.

Oh, and Cammie, get off the stage. You still don't know how to talk about games to actual gamers. Stick to The View and the Today show please X_X;;

Goods:
Mario Galaxy 2
Metroid Other M
New Mario Bros. Wii

Bad:
More stupid non-games
More minigame packages **show more of the WMP BESIDES WiiSports Resort!
Still no reason to upgrade to a DSi
Galaxy 2 and Metroid are 2010... so still nothing this year ;_;

It's not my fault that other than two or three games Nintendo gave me ZERO reason to be excited about anything.

Mario Galaxy 2 looks cool, but it looks exactly like the original. Hopefully it has something different about it, other than Yoshi.

More excited about Metroid Other M.

Zelda Wii, Nintendo. Where is it?

Wait Golden Sun?

Best conference ever period.

All they said was that it was being made, and like ten seconds of gameplay (no Isaac or Felix though).

So it's not much to say.

Doesn't matter.

Series has been dormant for too long.
I'm looking forward to MW 2 this year and that's all, E3 isn't very exciting to me. D:

New Super Mario Bros. Wii: Four Player Co-op and Competetive Play? Sounds like Four Swords Adventures, for Mario. Looks good to me.

Super Mario Galaxy 2: I was wondering what they would do for another 3D Mario Game. It looks promising, but I just hope it's actually challenging this time around. The Yoshi element looks good, better than Sunshine, anyway.

Golden Sun DS: YEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!

Metroid Other M: All they had to say in the trailer was "Any objections, lady?", and I would've been good. Then the showed gameplay. Did...did they actually take my suggestion and make a Third Person Metroid Game for the Wii!? Well, it looks badass.

Zelda:...you've disappointed me with your lack of Zelda, Nintendo. ;_;

Depending on how it works, I imagine it could work best with Survival Horror games and trying to keep calm during gameplay, if the game is scary enough. Then again, how will it work?

Metroid is made by Team Ninja, the Ninja Gaiden dudes, so it should have plenty of action. I mix of Prime and some Ninja Gaiden (a.k.a. God of War) type of stunts would be really fun.

Wii Vitality is going to be completely worthless just like the balance board and Wii Zapper. I think we all know that's going to happen.

The Zapper is incredibly pitiful for a peripheral.
Balance Board has some purpose...if you use Wii Fit with it. (What's the point of Wii Fit 2?)
At least Vitality has some potential in it.

Well, we got

-NSMB2, which should have been on the DS
- Golden Sun DS, which I have to admit is very cool.
- Mario Galaxy 1.5 (seriously, why even bother?)
- Wii Vitality Sensor, which I can't say with a straight face.
- New Metroid, which looks great.
- A half hour on the game hardly anyone wants, Wii Sports Resort.

Overall, I was pretty underwhelmed.  The few great moments there were did not make up for the low points, which were far too plentiful.

Better luck next year?

What potential? I have no ideas as to how this could possibly be used for videogaming?

Oh sure, that pulse idea you had SOUNDS nice, but overall, it's not going to do much to the gameplay. It's kind of dumb how I can't think of a single possible use for it. Nintendo, no more peripherals please. Or else the 2030 version of the AVGN is going to be going over stupid Wii peripherals instead of stupid NES peripherals.

Unless New Super Mario Bros. Wii has online co-op (which knowing Nintendo, it won't), I'll consider it a failure as well since it's just a sequel that should've been on the DS.

Still no Star Fox, Nintendo? ;_____;

I'll be looking forward to Galaxy 2, especially with Yoshi.
It's too bad it couldn't have been a more original concept, but oh well.

I still don't understand what New Super Mario Bros. Wii is. Can anyone explain?

Metroid: Other M looks promising.
I'm not really a fan of Metroid games, but I might like this. D:

Galaxy is one of my favorite Nintendo games. Can't wait for the next one.
Metroid looks pretty good too  ;D

I honestly wasn't expecting anything to "Wow" me.  I had really low expectations for Nintendo, and besides two games, they actually managed to piss me off a bit.

New Super Mario bros for the Wii?  I already bought that poop for the DS.  It looks kinda fun, but I more than likely won't buy it.

Woman's Murder Club: Games of Passion?  The hell is this?  It sound like you need to light some candles and drink a glass of wine while playing.

The shopping game was beautiful.  Teach little girls that all that counts is how you look, and how to use Daddy's credit card.

...Man, they really know how to push my buttons.  Super Mario Galaxy 2, and Metroid looks awesome.  Can't wait to get my hands on them.

Hmm, I liked it. Could be better, but I liked a lot of what they had to show. Clearly better than last year's, of course.

Vitality is actually my favorite E3 announcement so far. While I am sure nothing will come of it, it does, like mentioned, have extreme potential. Imagine the uses in something like RE4. Or what about Trauma Center as a surgeon, measuring your own heart rate as the game picks up and surgeries become more challenging (and crucial). Or imagine control of your weapon in Red Steel 2 becoming harder to do as your heart rate picks up. What about a "Crank" like game where failing to keep your heart rate up does damage? Tons of potential.

On the other hand, Nintendo also has the most disappointing item for me. Mario Galaxy 2 seems exactly the same. But with Yoshi. Good job Nintendo. I don't see why Mario would even consider returning to space for yet another adventure with no in between. But that's just me.

Also, intercourse  yeah Metroid and GS.

Finally, someone who understands the potential of Vitality.

I like Galaxy 2, Metroid Other M, FFXIII, New Shadow of Colossus (sorta XD ), God of War 3, and quite a few other things for the PS3. (hooray motion controller that looks like it actually works for actual games)

I just fail to see the use for what is essentially just a pulse monitor. And no, even if it did have something to do with survival horror games, it's still a useless invention and Nintendo should spend more time making sure their other stuff works and is useful to games before they try other stuff.

Woah, did Nayr actually say he like Super Mario Galaxy 2? Sounds like I lost another bet.

And Vitality is not just limited to Survival Horror games. That's just off the top of the head. Remember, we know little to nothing about it. Until we actually get a prototype and a demonstration of sorts...

My only problem is that putting one of those things on your finger hurts if you use it for an extended period.

I like Galaxy more than Sunshine. The only thing I hated was that it was too intercourse ing easy. Galaxy 2 looks like a lot of neat ideas using the same interface Galaxy 1 did.

*looks at Wii Zapper, Wii Board, and other dumb Wii attatchments* Yea, because previous experience was SO good before with the other peripherals. Again, I see no practical use, and Nintendo was frankly stupid for showing it without any gameplay (or even tech demos) to show what it could possibly be used for.

I'm excited about Metroid Other M very much as well. I know it doesn't look like a traditional Metroid game, but this looks much more story driven, thus necessitating the gameplay changes. Not to mention the Ninja Gaiden dudes are making it, so it'll actually be challenging. (hooray!)

Sony had the best showing in my opinion. A steady stream of quality titles that I'm interested in. Wii still has nothing this year. I mean yea, New Mario Bros. Wii looks nice (but it's no where near worth full retail price), but honestly, it looks like it should be a DS game instead of a Wii game. I still have nothing to play in the forseeable future for the DS outside of Mario and Luigi 3. Golden Sun I'm totally psyched for, but since all we got was a twenty second shot of nothing and no actual name for the game (Golden Sun DS will not be the name, dur), I assume it's going to be a while.

Super Mario Galaxy 2: Looks like more of the same, but Yoshis are in it!^_^
Metroid: Other M: WOW! A metroid game where Samus doesn't appear to be the only human? It looks amazing! Weeeeeeeeee...2010.

New Super Mario Bros. Wii: This won it. Plus Yoshis! ^_^

Golden Sun DS: If it's DSi only, I will cry. ;-;

meh everything else, and Red Steel 2 looks cool too.
