Title: SMB3 = Act?

That image sums it up. Why do you think the whole "play" emphasis was used? Was it all to be...a dream like setting? A plot device? What?

I'm rather stumped.

I've never actually thought of it like that before. Interesting.
But the image only shows World 1. If you go into the other worlds, you don't really see a much of that.
Though Nintendo could have went with a play theme for this game, it would make sense.

Psh, Mario. There are many Mario's, he dies, another returns. So either way, "Mario" is never in any danger.

The "act theme" was probably used for a "whimsical" theme of sorts. (ie: HAHAHA the platforms he is jumping on are being held up!)

By that theory, Paper Mario 1 and 2 as well as M+L: Superstar Saga never happened.

No they did, it was a stage because Mario was telling it to Luigi or something. And I don't understand the logic of M&L:SS never happening.

At the end of the game, the screen zooms out into the Yoshi theater. It may have happened but what you play is probably a movie of their adventure.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that. Yes, I guess it was a movie of their adventure, but I'm pretty sure it still happened.

I'm fairly certain they are video games, so none of them really happened.

And because brown leaves turn you into flying raccoons, I'm going to believe that the makers of the game were on acid.

Is this a safe assumption?

Nice observation. I think Nintendo aimed to make it a "Theatre" theme or Whimsical as someone else put it. Nice, I didn't catch that.
