Title: Damn warranties -- External HD
Post by: Lotos on July 05, 2009, 12:58:26 PM
The warranty of my external hard drive ended on April 7th.  It intercourse ed out on me just a few weeks ago.  In case I can't get a new one, what brand of external HDs would you recommend?  I had a Western Digital My Book Essential apparently.

I have a MyBook that's about 700GB, is that one you had?

I hope mine doesn't die :(

If its just not showing up on your computer, but you can hear it turn on, it might still work you know.

It shuts off about five seconds after I plug it in D:

I may just have a crappy one, I only have 500GB.  I even know what model it is from looking through the site for answers-- a MyBook Essential.  I want a 700GB MyBook :(

I have a iomega 500BG, but I saw a 1TB Seagate at Costco for like 100-150 the other day.

I'd still try taking it out the enclosure and putting it inside of your computer to see if it works or not.

If you're going to get a new one I would recommend buying an internal Western Digital HDD and the buy an enclosure for it.

I'm not sure but I believe it's cheaper, and probably a safer bet.
