Title: Texting while driving...
Post by: The Seventh on July 14, 2009, 05:22:11 PM
This (not super scitentific) study, conducted in a REAL VEHICLE, really reveals how badly texting while driving can impair someone.

Read the article and/or watch the video.  Both will give you the same idea.

Gee, I wonder why.

1. You're only using 1 arm on the wheel (not so bad, but it impairs you)
2. Your other arm isn't doing anything like the one on the wheel (screws up your brain a bit)
3. 99% of the time, YOU'RE NOT LOOKING AT THE FUCKING ROAD OH GOD A TREE WHAT *crash*.

It's banned in California for that same reason.
impairs you worse than alcohol
My sister uses both hands to text, she has an iPhone and uses it like a keyboard. Her hands aren't completely on the wheel, but on top of it with the phone, she looks at what she's typing, then to the side to look at her driving.
I often tell her to stop and that it's dangerous, but she always says exactly this: "I'm a good driver."
Who said you weren't?

I text while driving from time to time. I agree with the fact that it's retarded though. I know it's going to kill me one day. I've actualy stopped doing it as much at the request of a worried lady friend of mine.

Why the hell would you text at all?

It's stupid no matter what the case.

Because texting is a hell of a lot easier and less obnoxious than talking on a phone.

Where am I, the Mythbuster forums?

And texting is good for allowing you to carry out a personal conversation with someone in public...

Yep, can't text or talk on a cellular device here because we've had some accidents from people busy texting instead of watching the road.

Yet I see cops doing it all the time while driving (more often than I see civilians do it). Apparently they are allowed. I guess some people really are above the law :|

My county just banned utilizing any form of electronic communication while driving.  The state has a ban on talking on your cellphone while driving unless using a hands free device that meets the state's standards.

Texting can be fun, but unless you have a keyboard phone, it's hard.

Talking can be fun too.

I hardly text at all, but if I have to send a message while driving, I'll text at stop lights.

I was actually completely unaware of the idea of people being foolish enough to do something like text messaging while driving until it was mentioned in my driver's ed class :x

Using one or both hands, having to look at the screen, and taking up some of the user's attention. While we're at it why don't we play the DS while driving.

Standing next to someone talking would be extremely annoying, especially some random person.
At least texting you don't hear anything, except maybe them typing.

I never understood why people say texting is stupid.  Are they just old-fashioned?

Or is your phone one of those flip ones?  It's a nightmare texting on those.

Maybe that explains why I crashed twice, even though my phone wasn't even out either time. :B

you can text multiple people at once....you can have a private conversation in public......talk in class........send a message to multiple people

really you would have to be an idiot to not understand how texting has its advantages over calling.

Conference calls don't allow different conversations with many people -_-

You would have a private conversation in public because you can with texting, duh

You can call multiple people at once uising the conference features, who the hell has private conversations in public anyways?..notice the word "Private".

Phones aren't allowed during class so your point is invalid.
ok, so if I want to talk to one friend about one thing, and another about something completely unrelated, conference call will allow me to do that? yeah no.

You can have private conversations in public if you text someone, since it will still be private.

Phones aren't allowed in class......duh, thats my point. You would obviously get caught if you pull out a phone and call someone....but you can text pretty easily without the teacher noticing.

really I'm suprised I had to explain that.

I'm just really not getting why Persona can't see why texting is just as useful as a phone call, if not more useful.

Texting is stupid, nothing you guys can say will change my mind about that. The whole point of a mobile phone is too call people when your not home, not text them.
I wasn't aware there was a rule book......

I didn't know it was so hard to realize a persons opinion.
But you state your opinion as fact and everyone else's as stupid.
Title: Re: Texting while driving...
Post by: JrDude on July 15, 2009, 09:58:09 PM
Really..?
Stating an opinion as a fact means that you are saying your opinion is the way it is and there is no other correct opinion.
You know how when someone says "Mario's hat is blue," WRONG. But opinion-wise, what's your favorite Super hero. "SUPER MAN" WRONG IT'S SPIDER MAN. That is a bad example of how to state an opinion as fact.
