So, this may not be a problem for systems and computers that use cartridges, as they can potentially retain data for centuries, but floppy disks and even CDs/DVDs last for a much shorter amount of time. Owning several vintage computers, let me tell you, 20+ year old floppies just don't work, and any magnetic media is pretty much the same. Even battery-backed cartridges are dying, but at least they are replaceable.
