Title: VaatixGanon
Post by: Macawmoses on July 19, 2009, 01:07:39 AM
Our glorious leader, f?hrer, and friend, Vaatixganon, seems to have made his depart today. He is no longer clearly displaying an administration rank, nor is he sporting anything fancy. Instead, he's joined the regular ranks, and instead leaves us behind nothing more than House.

Many are wondering what the future of the site is. After all, Vaatix not only dominated the site with his technical prowess, he did so in style. Always in chat, the man behind House has been there through thick and thin. He hosted us after the Snorkel Screwjob. He got us through the Infection. He served as a keystone to the site since its inception, and is our second longest serving staff member - only behind Silverhawk79.

But what does this mean for the future? Well, it means issues won't be fixed as fast. It's true. But that doesn't mean we won't fix them. All of the Senior Mods and Admins have access to take a stab at it. Our existing ideas and concepts are still underway without him, and the heart and soul of the forum did not lie with him - but instead, each and every one of you.

Don't get me wrong, Vaatix will be missed. He taught me the fundamentals of being competent as a staff member, on and offline. Vaati also served as my mentor in other fields, and is perhaps the user I trust above all else online, and truly a friend. However, the show must go on. How would you feel if I left after losing my mentor?

Right now, NSFCD needs each and every one of you. Bailing out is not the solution, and I think those that leave because we've lost a great leader are foolish. I do, however, wish you the best of luck if you take this course of action. Ultimately, though, our future lies in YOUR hands, not Vaati's. Unless  he goes crazy and kills us through the cpanel  :robotveryhappy:

With that, let's celebrate one of the best things that ever happened to NSFCD. I hereby declare July 19th to be Vaatix Appreciation Day. VAD. If you have a problem with that, go suck a duck.

You'll be missed Vaatix.

I really don't know what to say about him leaving, I didn't expect it. He'll be missed, he was awesome, and this site is in fact better with him. I raise my glass to a pretty cool intercourse ing dude.

But for those of you who are saying this site will fail without him are mistaken, and it kinda upsets me that those of you who are quitting because he left are disregarding all the other users. Your leader leaves, so you bail on your friends and leave the site to rot without giving it a chance? Says something about your character.

I hated Vaatix with my guts and all, I could simply not stand him. In Rania's IRC channel, we tried planning rebelling against him in chat to make him stop being a dick to everyone. That never went through, of course, but I still hated the man.

Was he a good administrator? Absolutely. He was a great one. His technical expertise was surpassed by none that I've seen.

Vaatix was a great man, and he will be missed greatly. Time will only tell what will happen now.

Good bye, VaatixGanon. I will miss you, but you are still, and always be, an awesome guy that abuses his powers.

P.S.

I might as well also say that without Vaatix, I would not be who I am today. The day Vaatix banned my original NSF account for simply being a moron, I started to change into what you all see today. I've become slightly less of an idiot thanks to that man. And honestly, I think we all have.

Ah, John. It's been fun. Odd that just as I become reformed and return here, you should up and leave. Well, thus ends the era of the Reign of Vaatix. The Ban Cannon, Bink, your role as the villain in my story, and many other things that I cannot remember from over the years. Though I shall always have a mutual dislike for you, I will never stop respecting you for the forum that once was Friend Code Database. You started a small forum and turned it into a thriving ecosystem. You managed to succeed where all other tried and failed, and revived it from death. You were not only an Administrator, but a friend to many a member, always a cut above everyone, but not making them feel like it. For all that you've done there, here, and wherever else your endeavours may have taken you, the Internet world thanks you.
Knowing that you were a Star Trek fan, I'd normally say Live Long and Prosper, but knowing you for so long and where your allegiances were in the Sci-Fi world, it seems more appropriate to say You Will Be Assimilated. I know that you likely won't see this, and that you have lost all faith in me, but as your student at a time and someone who has seen the effects of what you do, I thank you.

Farewell, John

I never really got to know Vaatix, but it seems all of you respected him. The fact that he seems to have done so much, most of which I probably know nothing about, helps me to respect him without really knowing him. It sounds like he was a mentor to all, and has reshaped many of your lives, in and out of the internet. From all of what you say, it seems unfitting that he has to leave with the rank of 'Fighting Polygon', and instead deserves some special rank to commemorate his time here. One that only someone who has reached the NSFCD Hall of Fame and of his caliber should deserve.

Happy VAD, my only regret being I couldn't know him like many of you do.

I am truly sad to see Vaatix leave, even though he gave us ample warning that he was to do so.  He was, arguably, one of the most notable administrators I have ever seen, both for a unique personality and for amazing administrative capabilities.  If Silver broke everything, then Vaatix was the one who fixed everything.  I give that man, who I still associate with an image of Duke Nukem for reasons I cannot understand, my utmost respect as a forumer.

Goodbye, Vaatix, the Very Vivacious Visionary and Virally Vigilant administrator that you were and (I hope) will be in other endeavors.

Quoteis our second longest serving staff member - only behind Silverhawk79.

Are we talking who's had the rank the longest or first? Snorkel was the first, seeing as he was the one that stole the original NSF from that one kid when Nsider was shut down. As for the former, if I remember correctly, Vaatix (as well as Zoidberg, Silver, and myself) was made admin instantaneously after the forum was transferred (perhaps even while it was still on the first guy's server to help ensure no files were lost (they were anyway, which is why NS2 is now the bigger forum)).

I'm sorry, kids, but as much as you all hate to admit it, Snorkel started this forum. He just happened to be clever enough to steal it from a twelve year-old, yet still smart and ballsy enough to jump ship when it meant something for him in pecuniary terms (hell, if I knew there was a market for our admin accounts, I'd have sold mine while we were still the larger forum). Now that I think about it, I have more respect for Snorkel than I do for any person I've come across by being dragged into a forum in which I have no purpose (I was only a member of Nsider for about four weeks in 2004 (after being banned for saying the word "hell" to an admin in a PM, I started Divine Boards (where I met Vaatix) and kept in contemptuous contact with Bobcheese, who was partially responsible for my ban (thus getting me dragged back in for events such as PA (which I take partial responsibility for shutting down, because I'm egotistical and masculine))).

I was actually brought into this forum because Snorkel thought I was the owner of FCD and thus wanted me to help him steal the first NSF (which, at the time, was five times as large as NS2). I told him we needed Vaatix for it, too, although I don't think the two of us ever disclosed to Snorkel that Vaatix was the owner of FCD. Maybe we did, but for the most part, we had him fooled that I was somehow relevant to the whole situation. In reality, I contributed more to NS2 by telling Eric that Bobcheese.

With that little history lesson over, I think it's time for me to say a little bit about Vaatix's departure (and by that, I mean I'm going to talk about myself for another few paragraphs). The only reason I have been coming to this forum has been in pure jest. Soda and many others who know me well can testify that my lack of remotely serious posts is not because I'm incapable of having an intelligent conversation, but merely because I've yet to see this forum grow past the maturity of a second grade brawl in the playground. With that said, I think it's quite obvious that such meaninglessly facetious posts go completely overlooked unless there are others who feel the same way. While Vaatix may have taken his own position seriously (or at least was professional enough to treat it as such without anyone knowing he hated what he did), he was one of the few people here I could think eye to eye with. Other than that, I have to bring in people like Soda merely to hold an interesting conversation. With Vaatix gone and Super and Cogs showing up almost exclusively via instant messenger, I truly don't see what I ought to be doing here.

I'm not going to delete my account or change my password to something I can't guess or even use my tertiary secret admin account to wreak havoc on the forum. Although my post, at this point, may seem dramatic as such, I can simplify things to say that I'm leaving merely because conversation here is as interesting as an antique cook book. You can debate that I've never technically been here at all (to which, I would agree), but for now, let's just assume I've gone through the whole works of making one of those introduction threads filled with smiles and enough enthusiasm to embarrass a middle-school cheerleader. Let's also assume I was a close and personal friend of each and every member here, spending hours of the night conversing about our high school crushes and Celine Deon's new single and whatnot.

One thing we don't have to assume, however, is that I've been a beautifully contributive member and will be missed very much. More likely than not, I'll hop back on the train when something else happens (such as Moses committing suicide following the reconstruction of Nsider or Soda being made an honorary administrator in absentia), but for now, valete liberi.

post scriptum: it may seem terribly conceited that I not even mention Vaatix in this post, but seeing as the two of us talk via other means much more often, this doesn't change a whole lot for our relationship. Besides, he told me he was leaving months ago. I was starting to become a little impatient.

As a note, Dill, I am including total duration. Meaning Vaatix is now in fact second longest serving on staff - regardless of whom had first shot.

No less, I understand your point, Dill. We've become stale as of late, and some of our best and brightest are no longer with us. That doesn't change much in the end, as we are all still here in some shape or form. But it means a lot that you'd come back after my suicide, if only to take my position for yourself.

At first to me, Vaatix was just another higher Admin.
Then as I got to slowly know him............
I hated him... The way he treated people, and how he ran the site His way. I despised him for months, but still did everything he told me to do.

Eventually over time.... (not exactly sure HOW) but I ended up realizing all of his efforts and sacrifices towards This forum. I saw that he worked tirelessly hard in making this forum work for the better good.
His strict rules and no B.S. Attitude was ONLY for the good of the site...and putting, "Morons" in their place.

As I realize all of this, I grew to respect and honor him more and more. Eventually I develop a true loyalty towards him.
So much to the point to where if he wanted to take my rank Away For What ever reason, I would let it go and not say a word.
I wouldn't Care at all! Lol
It's like he could tell me to do/say anything and I would with out a 2nd thought, if it was for the good of the site.
I told him this many times, but I have an unrivaled respect for him more then anybody else on this entire site.....

The sacrifices that he's made is worth mentioning everyday,... The honor to be under Vaatix Gannon honestly is one of the best things that could happen to me online.
He's worth following and doing things for.

I'm not kissing up to him at all, but it's Really hard to express how I feel when I end up being an Extreme loyalist to somebody. Lol

Vaatix will be missed.....greatly, without him, it feels like a chunk of the forums have just been vaporized, never to re-materialize. I didnt know him to well, but he was more than just another member on the forum, much more.

Bye bye VaatixGanon...

Wow. Never thought I'd see this day.
I've known him for what, 4 years now?
He was always adamant about one thing, and that was taking care of the site.
It's pretty sad seeing him go, reflecting on everything that has happened in the past.
However I will always respect him and he deserves a break like this. His future shall be bright.

I know I'm a little late for this thread, and VaatixGanon too :( but just reading about the guy makes you feel bad that he's leaving. I didn't know him, but I'll definitely help send him off on a high note :). Goodbye, Vaatix! I'm sorry I hadn't joined this forum earlier. :(
