You know those people that refuse to cuss, but use words/phrases like "dang", "that stinks", "bullspit", etc? Those are the same people that are retarded, stubborn, or heavily ignorant.
I went to this local comedy club place where they have stand-up comedians and sketches.
The comedian was pretty good, he was telling jokes that were, admittedly, pretty witty. He used a lot of vulgarities, however. Everyone knows they were used for comedic effect and powerful descriptions, but there was one lady who didn't seem to understand.
After the comedian's performance, she complained to the establishment and to the comedian himself. She recommended that he "tone down his ill language or be doomed to hell".
Threatening someone with burning fire for all eternity is divine, but using words like "intercourse " and "poop" is Satanic?
Sometimes I don't understand the intercourse ing world.
It's all a personal choice. I don't mind swearing, but I don't use it.

I don't mind if people don't cuss. But when people use the alternative words like the ones I listed, I can't help feeling pity.
It's kind of similar to vegetarians who buy those burgers designed to be like real burgers.
I feel the same way. If you say freak and mean intercourse , you're saying the same thing, because you intend the same meaning. It's stupid that people do it.
I just do it so my parents don't get mad at me for cursing. :P
Yeah, intercourse those people!
I think that cursing in a casual conversation is unnecessary. It makes the person cursing look like they need attention or something. I only curse when I'm angry or when I need powerful descriptions, like you stated.
ironically it's those people that need to grow up X_X;;
They're just words for emphasis most of them have the same meaning as "toned down" stuff, so it's no big deal, seriously. It won't be an issue of the people who have problems get the hell over it and not let it bother them.

Yeah, f*** those people!
They are
poop to me!
I don't really mind it, some people just don't like to swear. But the comedian had a purpose for using it, so the lady didn't really need to say that. :|
And comedians almost always have to swear, unless they're more funny without it.

With all forms of wordplay, you have to know how to use it for it to be effective.
Mindless swearing is just...useless.

So, I was intercourse ing walking my way through this poopty airport when some ugly ass ninny comes up to me and asks me for my intercourse ing ticket.
Am I a comedian yet? :3

That's descriptive. D=
I think Groucho Marx once commented that if a comedian had to be dirty to be funny, he's not funny. I believe the same goes for profanity. Think about it, it's the same kind of thing: the reason you're laughing is that something that normally would not be acceptable is used freely in a mocking way. It's an easy way out to insert profanity in your comedy to make it funny (which is a practice the Internet is quite familiar with (http://img246.imageshack.us/img246/7392/1197527892862oe8.jpg)).
That said, I do enjoy comedy with ridiculous amounts of profanity, like that image, but that is only if it is absurdist in nature...like that image. If it's absurd to begin with, profanity works because it makes it even more absurd. I guess, then, it depends on the type of comedy.
Now, stand-up...I know a lot of people would hate me for this, but I don't find most stand-up comedians funny. Why? They try too hard, and they rely mostly on observational humor, which is boring and idiotic. And do you know what makes that more idiotic? Inserting profanity. THAT is where profanity is not needed and just makes the comedian look more like an idiot. I think that lady may have been right in saying it could've done without it, then, if I'm thinking that comedian was that kind of comedian.
Also,

If a comedian has to swear to be funny and another one does not, doesn't that just mean the latter comedian is the better one?

In my day people didn't need tickets for that sort of thing
I try not to curse excessively, but don't mind it too much when people around me curse.
However, I do agree with the taboo of cursing.
Although logically it makes no sense... the fact that the majority of the world thinks cursing is "bad" basically cements the fact that it is bad.
Stand-up comedy can go one of three ways.
1- Cursing just for shock value, where the jokes aren't particularly witty but are made entertaining by cursing. (Dane Cook)
2- Jokes are decently funny, but cursing is used at certain points to improve the joke or put emphasis on a certain part of the joke. (Most comedians, most being mediocre)
3- Jokes are great, well thought out and engaging without the use of cursing. However, cursing can and will be used. Cursing isn't relied on, but is present. (Jeff Foxworthy, Jim Gaffigan, and a multitude of other top notch comedians)
There are tons of exceptions, but these rules generally hold. You can't watch a Dane Cook show multiple times and laugh each time, once you know the using is coming it takes away the entertainment value.
And then there's Ron White, who uses cursing excessively but is really a genius in the field. It depends on taste mostly, but I will take a comedian from the second 2 groups over a Dane Cook any day,
Ouch, I worded that wrong. :(

Am I alone in thinking that Jim Gaffigan is unfunny and actually a pain to listen to?

Yes
little buddy does that
Well sorry to disappointed you Super.
I don't use those harsh words.. IRL atleast.
I believe my point can get across with out using such words.
However, the person who complained should of known better to be in a place like that anyway.

I forgive you; the South can be negative on a person's mind. D=
Really, though, I was exaggerating about EVERYONE being stupid. I know that there are respectable people out there that can get by without cussing, beating people, etc.
But there is a point where someone will try to confine their vocabulary in order to stay in order with their "morals".
You probably have a good heart and don't want to offend anybody, but in this day and age, using swear words can simply be more effective, and because of how the world works, being polite won't always get you somewhere. I'm not saying normal words can't be used effectively, though.
It's all about how you use your words. People can make myself sound smart or passionate with either.
Different situations call for a different level of formality, like speaking with a boss. I'm not telling you all to say "Hey Mr. Boss, intercourse you! Give me a intercourse ing raise."
So sorry if I offended you, it definitely wasn't my intent. Maybe I shouldn't have used those insulting words. =P
