Title: Ok is this...
Post by: Mario64 on September 23, 2009, 08:08:21 PM
Is this figurative language, and if it is what type?

"I conjure only but to raise up him"

I think that "statement" needs a "Comma" in it...

At least that would help.
But even so... It makes no sense to me.

This is the whole quote if it would make more sense...

This cannot anger him: 'twould anger him
      To raise a spirit in his mistress' circle
      Of some strange nature, letting it there stand
      Till she had laid it and conjured it down;
      That were some spite: my invocation
    Is fair and honest, and in his mistress' name
      I conjure only but to raise up him.
