Title: Nintendo should make another Zelda game like Zelda II
Post by: Someguy13 on December 23, 2009, 06:43:47 PM
I'm playing through Zelda II right now and I gotta say I'm really enjoying it. The only flaw I find is that every time you die (except in the Great Palace) you start back at the North Palace. Some enemies might have a little too much health too but that's it really.
Obviously things would be added and there would be a graphical upgrade but for the most part it would stay the same.

What do you think? A lot of people think Zelda games are getting stale (not me but others do) and this could be just what the series needs.

The only reason I hated Zelda II was because of starting all the freaking way back at the North Palace, but I would totally be up for that idea.

The other fanboys wouldn't be, though.

Yeah I know what you mean. I was so relived when I made it to the Great Palace and realized that if I died there I would start at the entrance rather than the North Palace.

I liked Zelda II. I would play another game like it.

Eh. Zelda II annoyed me.
They should stick to the overhead Zelda games when it comes to 2D.

THANK YOU! This is exactly what I've been thinking. I played a bit of Zelda 1 when I was young but really got into Zelda 2. I still enjoy that game to this day. Now despite still enjoying new Zelda games it feels like a formula, it's the same game with a slightly different setting/story. I get a bit tired of the same weapons (many which aren't that useful), fairly linear gameplay, predictable upgrades, limited uses for all the money you collect. I'd love to see more items that aren't a required part of the story ie. more swords, shields, armor get rid of items like the slingshot, and boomerang if they are going to be as useless as in twilight princess. There should be more true towns, perhaps some side quests, etc. The boss fights are the most fun by far especially in the 3D versions so I'd like to see some more enemies that put up a fight.

As for the Zelda 2 tie in I've wanted to see actual leveling brought back ever since Ocarina of Time. Also the move to 3D made me wonder why jumping was an action that could only be performed at ledges or during a locked on jump attack. The different magic spells in Zelda 2 added an interesting element and many of them were hidden in the various towns. Some of the bad guys were incredibly powerful but that sometimes made things interesting. I remember many times having to figure out a way past certain enemies without fighting them or use a superjump to get past them. It was also fun (though incredibly difficult) if you decided to raid all the dungeons as early as possible and leave before fighting the bosses.
