More and more I see middle school kids and younger with expensive phones. Over the summer, at the fair, this little kid had like a $200 phone. Most teenagers and adults I know don't even have phones that cost that much. What's wrong with getting a kid a $100 phone that can just call, text, and maybe play music? Why give a kid a phone with a touch screen? They'll just scratch it up hella fast and want a new one.
Does this bother anyone else?
Not really. It's none of my business what phone anyone else has.
The parents are probably in debt over it anyway.
I think they just need a simple little flip camera phone, enough to call, txt, and take pics.
My phone costed over $360, but I'm in high school so I EARNED IT ^_^
I think I'm the lone exception to that.
I'm only 13, yet I have a blackberry curve.

>proving the point of this thread.
You're in middle school, yet you have a $700-$800 phone. :|
At least you're taking good care of it. After glueing my phone doing something incredibly stupid, I feel like one of those middle schoolers with their expensive phones. ;_;
At least it works now, except for the yuck on the side. Plus my 3. Have to puch EXTRA hard. And that's an important Speed Dial number D:
...Who pays 700-800 dollars for a simple blackberry when you can just buy one for $200?

Sir, the BB Curve costs over $700. If you got it cheaper, it was probably because of a contract.
Well, I DID pay only $45 for my phone, with 2-year contract. If it broke I'd need to pay $360+ for a new one.
$700-$700.
My phone was free with a two year plan.

Parents paying =/= free.
Also, could have been some special deal, otherwise you won't find free BlackBerries on a regular basis.
I don't know, either.
My first phone I got at 13 was only $25 with a 2 year contract. The second one, a handmedown from when my mom replaced her phone. The third one? Another handmedown from my dad.
Yet I find it funny that these younger kids that probably aren't even 10 (a friend of my sister's was only 9 when she got her fancy pants $350 phone for god's sake) get these expensive as hell phones, when all I get is pre-used phones.
At least my parents take good car of theirs... so I wasn't given something horrible.
Here's a better question: Why does anyone need a 200$ Phone If they're just going to use it for calling people?
I'm questioned more on why any elementary kid has a phone in the first place, but I have a friend who's younger brother has it simply due to the contract.
I'm a junior in High School and I own a $20 dollar phone.
It's a brick.
I didn't get my first cell phone until I was 15, and all it did was call and text. But then again that was pretty much all phones could do back then unless you got a batpoop insane expensive one.
Still, these kids don't need cell phones.
You all remind me of stereotypical old people, "Damn kids and their newfangled technology!"
Seriously, new, expensive phones are fun. Touch screen, apps, music, internet, everything. If you've got the money and take care of it, why not?
Because 8 year olds have proven to be responsible with expensive technology.

8 year olds, no. 12 year olds maybe.
all the phones in my family are free :). my bro passes down his old phone to my mom, who passes hers down to me, who passes mine down to my sis. well, my brother has to pay but that's bout it. once i'm in college i'll break the chain.
I didn't have aphone until I was nineteen and bought it myself. How do I feel about kids with really expensive phones? Couldn't care less.
My phone was $50 but free with the online discount, all I had to pay was the shipping/handling.
But, I don't think I own anything over $200. My family does, obviously, but my iPod was $180, my guitar and amp wasn't even $200...
Eh, we're poor right now. Dang house market and paying rent + mortgage on old house because it won't sell= no money
Why does anyone need a 1200 dollar computer?
Wait that isn't comparable to this.
Little kids are spoiled.
It bothers me, I keep seeing really really young kids with these kinds of phones. It's easy to tell what kind of Douchebags they are going to grow up into.
I only have a $100 phone(got it for free though)
