Out of character for a bit, but by 1999 all of the Discovery Zones were gone, it went bankrupt in 1996 and was acquired by the company behind Chuck E. Cheese's and they were slowly all converted to Chuck E. Cheese's by 1999.
QuoteBankruptcy
Stretched thin by expansion, changes in management tried to save the company, however (under Viacom's control) Discovery Zone filed for bankruptcy on March 26, 1996 in Wilmington, Delaware with debts of up to $366.8 million.[2] Chuck E. Cheese's purchased approximately 500 of DZ's locations and turned them into Chuck E. Cheese's facilities by the end of 1999.
It didn't help that they were massive breeding grounds for sick kids.

Didn't stop Chuck E. Cheese. I think they have hand sanitizer now, which they didn't have in the 90's.
