Title: Oh no, not Monopoly.
Post by: Kilroy on February 05, 2010, 08:28:36 PM
http://www.styleture.com/2010/02/05/new-monopoly-game-design-does-it-deliver-or-dissapoint/

Monopoly is getting a completely new design.

"The new Monopoly board is circular, doesn't have paper money but debit cards instead, and when you pass go you don't get a measly $200, but $2,000,000 to account for all the inflation and the change in real estate prices since 1935 when Monopoly was first released."

This is intercourse ing terrible. It might look "modern", sure, but compared to the old board, this is disgusting.

And "accounting for inflation"? Fuck that. I don't need to be dealing with millions of dollars like I do in The Game of Life.

So yeah, whine with me.

YEAH, HOW DARE THEY TRY SOMETHING DIFFERENT

Seriously, intercourse  off. This actually looks cool, and it's sad that people have to whine whenever a company tries to put a spin on anything.

The problem is that the old board looks vastly superior to this, and this just looks like a modernized version of what we know as Monopoly.

Monopoly is supposed to use those old and decrepit monetary systems because it was made in the 30s. That's the whole point of the Mr. Monopoly guy, he's a Capitalist Oil Baron.

This... this is completely different. It's Monopoly set now, which is completely stupid.

The circular board idea is silly, I never understood it, the computer-operated money system I can semi-understand, but having the cash itself was always nice, and as was having the actual properties.

Also, how is auctioning and trading going to work?

What is this? This makes as much sense as redesigning soda cans into triangular shapes.
No, no it doesn't. We're talking modern redesigns, not pointless redesigns.

...actually, it doesn't look all that bad. Still, I'd rather play classic Monopoly. You know, paper money, square board, cards, and NO CREDIT CARDS. Classic. So classic it doesn't need a pointless redesign. Like this.
Do you think it sucks, do you think it's okay, are you going to make up your mind!?

The board itself doesn't really bother me. But 2 million? Really now? The PASS GO COLLECT 200 DOLLARS is FUCKING CLASSIC.

also, paper money would be better. Fuck them.

It probably costs less to make this version than the original, and they can sell it for the same price. That's why most companies introduce "New and Improved!" versions of things.

Stop complaining guys, it's a new design, if you don't like it don't buy it, or buy an old version on the internet. Problem solved.

I'm glad I still have the original. This just looks too... I don't know. Meh, I'd give a chance before bashing it though.

Didn't they have the same idea of modernizing monopoly a couple years ago? There even was an edition of this with electronic banking:

What, since when was there an airplane moving piece? None of the monopoly sets I've ever played with included that. It seems to replace the boot there.
Also, the gold pot moving piece is rather nice although newer.
