Title: Skies of Arcadia
Post by: The_MasterSword1 on February 12, 2010, 12:33:15 AM
Well, I'm just curious is all but. On the Dream Cast which the game I think was released for the GCN, it was called Skies of Arcadia, I actually own the original two disk set which I bought for twenty dollars but now is worth like fifty now. I think it's an amazing game with a story line. If anyone has played it or seen parts of it, what do you think about it? I can't remember either, I'd have to look again but I think there re-releasing the game on the PS3. I can't really remember honestly without looking it up.

I loved it, although my Dreamcast died right after I got into disc 2....  >:(.

Dunno about re-releasing it though

That tottally sucks, I have alot of games for my Dreamcast which I still play but yeah, go on ebay. They sell like for fifty bucks, someone ruined my first one (I got it fixed) I bought another copy for 50 dollars at a game store and they were all the same price. Apparently theres only so many now and anyone who has one better cling for dear life to them lol. I have Evolution 1 & 2 alo, amazing games. Shining force, the original RE 3 release. Yeah, DC was so understated due to poor advertising and the release of the PS2.

I actually have bought another one, its due in the mail any day now. :)

But yeah, I think the Dreamcast had better games than the other consoles last gen, no matter what cool new thing came out on PS2/Gamecube, I always went back to  my Dreamcast.

Same here, I have a ton of game on my Dreamcast. Oh yeah there was one game called uhh... thinking... thinking... Ooga Booga or something lol, game was funny yet epic. Basicly your tribal people and your trying to win the missions and beat the other guys at the same time. Epic. MDK2 was good too I have that but god man, talking about the literal term of "hard".

I've played part of it, never owned it. From what I've played and what people tell me, it's a pretty kick ass game. I should pick it up sometime. That is, if 10 games weren't already on my waiting list.

I always wanted it when it was on GCN. I never bought it though. It would probably be hard to find now.

The GCN version wasnt nearly as great as the DC version, it was actually changed to an extent on some things. And the graphics on the DC were just as good. So yeah. Win.

Don't forget how Sega was completely retarded and threw itself into a financial rut by manufacturing too many DC's.

Thats true too. Why would you want to produce so many without first makign sure you'll sell all of them. They caused there own downfall like they did with the Master System.

Skies is a great game, and a very important one from a plot-wise perspective. After FFVII came out, pretty much all RPGs were dark and cynical for a couple years. SoA was really the first RPG to reconstruct the old fantasy RPG--good indisputably wins out over evil, the plot is overwhelmingly idealistic, lots of old cliches appear, yadda yadda.

It's not the greatest game from a purely gameplay-oriented standpoint: there are lots of random encounters (the occurrence ratio was lowered in the GCN version, but was still considered too high, there's lots of powerleveling, and graphics are pretty crummy. But the game is huge and there are tons of secrets, and ship battles were also tons of fun. The whole was definitely more than the sum of its parts in this game

I'm wondering, was there lots of loading in the DC version? Or maybe it was just my DC dying, but whenever I'd do something in battle it froze to load for a second.

If you guys look into it, SEGA actually knew they were gonna go under most likely, that why they did what they did. Intentionally making amazing games, trying to do so much at once. They wanted to go out with a bang.

Yeah, mine never took hardly any time. But SoA had introduced a lot of things like the gameplay was amazing, it was really different. Plus the added system of fame.

I saw the game at the store a long time ago and became curious about the game after reading the back of it and looking at the boc art.  I kept my eye on it, and I immediately bought the game for the GCN after getting money for winning a local SSBM tournament.  One of the few RPG's I've bought on a whim that I can say, without a doubt, was definitely worth the pick up, and it is on my list of greatest games I've ever played.  Of course, I still own the game.  =D

It's high on my gamecube want list. My friends are scavenging stores to see If It's there; I'm rather interested ever since I heard about this from one of my friends when discussing RPG's.

I have the second, never been able to get a hold of the first one. And don't feel like going through 15 CD-Rs getting it the other way.
