Title: ATTN: Anyone who owns a wii.
Post by: Thirdkoopa on March 01, 2010, 02:00:02 PM
Get fire emblem radiant dawn

You have no reason to not have this game. Also this is now the general fire emblem thread for the probably 3 or so people here who play it.

One of the best tactical RPG's ever; If you're fishy on it then just rent it. There's a few things I have gripes about but it's just awesome.

...And the fact that it probably won't get any cheaper for at least a while. Especially considering how Path of Radiance is still high in prices and they've already stopped making new copies of RD.

I swore I wouldn't buy it until I could get a copy of Path of Radiance.

Doesn't look like I'll have much luck in either department now. ;_;

Still on chapter 23 in PoR. ;-;
Ever since I got RD I've been saying I was going to beat PoR before I play it. That was 2 years ago...

Compared to other Fire Emblem games, this game really is not that good.

BUT, it is still a great game  ;)

That was a great game. I loved the classed up thieves but it's a pity they made their special critical leave the enemy with 1 hp rather than flat out one shot them like in the one on the GBA.

I always told myself I was gonna buy it after I bought/beat PoR. But that never happened, so I never got RD. Still loks like one hell of a game though.

In fact, I haven't played anything Fire Emblem related in a long time...I don't know what happened.

Wut?

You mean 2 assassins? Actually it's possible to have 3.

Assassins have 2 critical hits in the GBA version. One is a normal critical and the other just kills the enemy regardless of how much damage you were going to do.

In RD though the one that just kills them was made less broken by leaving them with 1HP regardless of how much damage you were going to do rather than flat out ending them.

That's what I was talking about.
I can't figure out what you were though...

You said the "like in the one on the GBA."

There were two Fire Emblem games on the GBA. Now that I look back though, I should have made myself more clear. D:

I'm horrible at them too; words can not describe how many resets I've gone through in Radiant Dawn. However you can play it on easy for at least a while AND save in between battles along with having your regular save.

that > little use out of your wii. : )

-the retro/japan only games weren't all that hot either. I'm almost done with FE5 and the only thing I find superior is plot. Most other things are just not that great
-Path of Radiance is about the same as radiant dawn asides from having more balance.
-FE7/8 and Shadow Dragon/11...well I can't comment there but I don't here so much that's particularly amazing.

I'm honestly thinking PoR/Radiant Dawn are the best. I'd take all the elements PoR added with tracing back to being 3D and whatnot over having to slightly use strategy better. That's however just me - I'll prolly play all the other american FE's at some point.

Fire Emblem 7 (First American one) is my second favorite game of all time while RD isn't even in my top 10. I liked 7 because it had a great feel to it. RD is great, the difficulty is actually a challenge unlike other FE game (not including 6. Some of those levels like the desert almost got me) and the story was better than most of the games these days (and it still wasn't close to a lot of FE games). However, some of the small stuff like taking out the conversations really got me. That was a staple they should keep. It reveals back story and brought me back to play FE7 multiple times.

Also, I didn't like 5. Got so old so quick  :(  But when I talk about Fire Emblem games, I usually only talk about the ones in English and 6.

No problem.

Anyway I'm pretty sure the killtacular Assassin critical was in both GBA games though...

Never played any Fire Emblem game.  Hell, before Melee, I didn't even know the series existed, and for a while after Melee, I didn't even know it had any games that came out in the States.

Conversastions? There's still that. It's just in the shop then info.

But yeah 5 got old quick the only reason i kept playing it was the difficulty : (

Question FH; Have you ever played a tactical RPG?

If you haven't then Radiant Dawn (Or Path of Radiance) is the place to start. Saving in between battles already makes it more preferable than other tactical RPG's to start with.

No thanks. Not much of a Fire Elmblem fan. Plus, I have been saving my money for HG/SS. They're coming out in one week. I can't wait. :P

I don't know what defines a game as being a tactical RPG, so I have no idea if I've played any.

Those games where you move around on a grid - It's kind of like Chess. You control your characters pick a spot they go on and then attack the enemy.

Of course there's risks. Due to the grid just by short ranged combat four of them could come up close on there turn and harass you from all corners. Which lead to many strategies in the tactics.

If that description is too vague or you haven't played one then maybe renting it is a better idea.

Meh, doesn't sound like my kind of game.  The closest thing I can think of to that is Civ4, which I know is not a Tactical RPG.

Like chess but far more complicated and with a better story.

Then go for a rental sometime. I'm not even a fan of the concept myself. I still need to go finish it.

Well not really far more complicated. It's complicated in some senses but easier to pick up in others.

Its far more simplistic than chess. There are plenty of classes but it boils down to two triangles composed of three weapons and three magics that defeat the other in rock, paper, scissors fashion.

And at the same time It's much more addicting than chess. EVERYONE TO THE RENTAL MACHINE.

Personally, I'm not a big fan of strategy games. Especially an unforgiving strategy game like Fire Emblem. So no, I wont be getting it. =P
