This is now actually the (un)official GH/RB thread. Do I need to say more? Stuff will be posted up here as it goes. For now, discuss the two games, discuss amazing charts, etc.
And most of all post FC/XBL/PSN names and GH2 is the best of the series guitar-wise.
Recent News:
-RB3 and GH6 announced, look to be somewhat promising but not so much. Obviously due to an extreme lack of news. Oh well; Patience is Patience.
-RB3 will be innovative.
-Only two games on both sides released this year, well, at least on consoles.
-Rock Band: Green Day coming soon
-DJHero 2 coming soon as well but I believe that would be better in it's own thread.
FC/XBL/PSN:
Thirdkoopa - Thirdkoopa (PS3) : Currently can not play until the summer.
-Guitar Hero: World Tour
-Guitar Hero: Metallica
-Guitar Hero: Smash Hits
-Guitar Hero: 5
-Guitar Hero: Van Halen
-The Beatles: Rock Band
-Rock Band 2 (As soon as I get back)
Extra stuff: I play expert on all instruments but I'm not that good at drums compared to the others and I mainly sing/do vocals these days when it comes to the band games.
other stuff:
eventual edit
Uh, what the hell is a "Guitar Hero 2 style" supposed to mean?

See: Better difficulty curve.
It's commonly agreed that 2/3 had the best of the series. I think 1 partly did but just had horrible HO/PO's. Maybe I've just turned too biased for the HMX GH's these days.
and post edited to contain fewer words.
So Harmonix is putting out the same amount of games and Activision isn't being a whore. Cool.
I refuse to buy another horrid Guitar Hero game, no matter what they advertise. However, I will be getting Rock Band 3 on release date.
Rock Band 3 has me very excited. I'm wondering how they could possibly improve upon RB2. D:
Bump for the sake of an awesome thread change. Discuss basically everything GH/RB related here. This will not be the thread for DJHero.

I'm wondering how they could possibly improve upon RB2
considering i've actually played every gh/rb game ( ;-; )
For Drums GH5 and RB2 had it right, so there's not much else to fix upon that. Maybe Expert+ But updating 1,000+ Or so DLC would be a nightmare. Really there's not much else here. Well, except some solution still to being able to play the full song without the whole "Hey let's save star power up" - Maybe just go with the one on TB:RB.
For Vocals...Well...RB2 was hella easy. I really think they should go back to RB1's timing window on vocals but leave everything else the same. Well make talkies better and the pitch indicator not totally awkward.
For Guitar/Bass I say to just try a more Guitar Hero 2 method; Make HO/PO's better to see, or at least add an option to make them much more noticeable. Asides from that just be sure those disc songs like with every other instrument are charted well and you're basically good to go. Oh and fix the god darn strum limit. While I like open notes myself I could do without them since Bass with my friends is often just an extra guitar.
And of course balancing the setlist. As long as they make every instrument fully comfortable to play in seal, a few new features, and a balanced setlist for all instruments that's also great, memorable, and different from all the songs released lately and I think it'll be pretty golden. The "Innovative Idea" Is just the possible icing on the cake.
There's probably more but I think as long as both companies manage to pull these main factors together they'll be able to induce a hopefully more memorable year. WT Was pretty rushed and RB2 didn't truthfully add a lot (Or knowing by RB1,
fix a lot) and GH5 added so much at once that a bit of it was counter-productive.

2's was balanced, yes. 3's was awful; Set 1 was harder than 2 and 3, Set 7 had the Before I Forget/3s and 7s brick walls (both of them should have been 4/5 had Neversoft not terribly overcharted each, and overcharted BiF should have gone in 8, anyway), and Set 8 had Raining Blood (and I will never forgive Neversoft for putting it in the game, even moreso after it made it into Smash Hits).

I think they should learn how to chart expert+ before they make any more of those charts. Harmonix has the right idea. Have them only play one bass pedal so our charts don't look like a big orange mess. I could see it being an option, but most of the time it's just stupid. And this is coming from a metalhead.
I think vocals are fine. RB1's vocal system intercourse ed me up no matter how well I sang. It was like "NO THIS IS JUST STRONG NOT AWESOME"
Harmonix's HO/PO window is only getting tighter and tighter. I really doubt they'll open it back up. I think HO/PO's are really easy to see... I could see them having a brighter skin or something though.
I heard they're trying to make Rock Band 3 more like real instruments rather than lolplastic. That's just one of the rumors though.

Part of 3's was actually pretty good but but that was mainly during the middle of the game. I guess the whole "People mention it a lot" Comes from the fact it's the most popular one and the one most people started on. I never got why people call it that anyways but whatever. I can at least see the slight qualities it has to node that.
Come to think of it actually the HMX GH's were easily the best in balance to me. It's just so hard to recreate that in with four different instruments but with the amount of songs we've seen licensed I still think it's possible. We can only really wait from here.
Also don't you have RB2 on your PS3? If you're not busy on one day in the summer I'd like to hit up a few songs with you in band mode especially since we're the only two people who own it on PS3.

Well I was meaning more for Rock Band 3 in that post but I agree with you; They really need to chart it in a smooth matter so it isn't just "MOAR PEDAL" and chart the original Expert better. Just because Expert+ exists doesn't mean they get to do a sloppy job on Expert. And I'd like to see a bit more on making it work better with RB drums in GH's case. GH drums on RB on the other hand is however fine.

I dunno, maybe a mix on timing windows. I played the PS2 version so it was more polished in ways but in that sense it took me effort to FGFC/5 Star/Gold Star it but at the same time it wasn't forcing me to remember the song until I'm black and blue. Still would have to be at least a bit more loose than RB1/TBRB for those crazy as hell pitch songs. Though TBRB was due to the masters.

Opening it up a bit makes more for enjoyable playing unless you open it up to a wide point; But they really at least need to fix the strumming window. Shit like East Jesus Nowhere by Green Day is just completely intercourse ed up. It's not like people are actually asking to bring GH3's timing window back.

That should be...Interesting. Knowing HMX I doubt it would sacrifice the actual original gameplay, I just wonder how they'll do it as instruments are already costly.
